**$100 in pledges to any rescue that may pull!** Lucky Charms came to ACCT Philly after the heartbreaking passing of his longtime owner. He remained in the home for several days after their death and was later taken in temporarily by a kind neighbor. Though they tried to help, Lucky's energy became too much for them to manage, and he was ultimately surrendered to the shelter so he could find a new forever family. This tall, handsome boy has a sweet and submissive soul beneath his unsure exterior. Initially nervous in the shelter environment, Lucky Charms takes time to open up—but once he does, he blossoms into a playful, affectionate cuddlebug who thinks he’s a lap dog. He enjoys pets, knows “sit” (and possibly “paw”), and is food-motivated—though he may be picky about his treats. He also seems to be mostly house-trained and is eager to explore on walks, though he does pull on leash and would benefit from basic training. In play and in handling, Lucky shows soft, gentle behaviors. He's shy with new people and hesitant about touch on his limbs, but he remains tolerant and never reactive. With patient introductions, Lucky has begun to engage in play and enjoy affection. Due to his sensitive and timid nature, he would do best in an adult-only home where he can settle in slowly and feel safe. We started our little adventure relaxing in my yard and strolling around the neighborhood. He was calm, curious, and such a gentleman the whole time. Later, Lucky came with me to get my car serviced, and he totally stole the show—charming everyone he met. He sat patiently (for treats, of course!) each time we crossed the street, showing off his great manners. One of the funniest parts of the day was seeing how much he loved the car—he was all over it like it was his own personal truck! I tried to snag a photo with him in the driver's seat, but I wasn't quick enough....I’m guessing someone in his past had a pickup, because he made himself right at home. 4/16 play group notes: Came into yard fast and abrasive, immediately became pushy and did not respond to correction from dogs or handlers, instigated a fight between the other two dogs in yard who were trying to correct Lucky C. Dogs were eventually able to be separated. Per volunteer 4/13: Lucky Charms is a big boy, he almost reminds me of a Great Dane mix. He was easy to get out of his kennel and he was ready to go outside. We went for a short walk. He does pull a bit on the leash. He pottied as soon as we got outside so he may be trying to stay house trained. He showed me he knows sit and he might know paw but he was not too interested in the hot dogs I had. He will jump up to give you hugs and enjoys all over pets. His nails are long and he’s missing the fur on his ears, so he needs a little TLC. I sat down and all 70lbs of him made his way to my lap and he just sat there and looked around. He definitely doesn’t realize he isn’t lap dog sized but I suppose he thought he fit so he would sit! I had no issues returning him to his kennel. I got a few different treats for him to try and he likes the plain old crunchy ones, no special requests for this sweet boy. I really enjoyed my time with him. He was very sweet and mild mannered. 04/13/2025 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Lucky Charms KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: Lucky C. was lying down with soft eyes. He looked up with a slight wag when he saw the handler and was easy to leash. Once secured he was hesitant but with some leash pressure came right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls strong HANDLING: In the room, Lucky Charms sniffed around curiously and kept his head and tail low. He was avoidant of the handlers while he sniffed some urine but once he smelled a treat, he showed us some interest. He did not take any treats but did look up at us with his soft baby eyes. He comes when called with very low wags but gets nervous and tucks his tail once he's near you. He is a very sweet and shy submissive boy. He slowly jumped up on the handler for some pets, with some time he warmed up and started hopping around to play. He allowed all handling but was unsure about his limbs being touched, looking at the handlers hands as she moved down. He remained very tolerant of us and remained timid. PLAY: Engaged in play, needs time as he’s nervous TOYS: Takes possession COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS: Exp. Gold 04/12/2025 Patient allowed handling, was nervous and at times would head whip from touching. Use caution when handling, but is not aggressive—just very nervous. Food motivated!
