June 1, 2025: Everett, as it turns out, is 58% German Shorthaired Pointer, and 42% Vizsla from DNA testing. The transformation in Everett's body and demeanor in a little over 5 weeks has been amazing. I can't thank the wonderful folks at Tail Gate For Dogs in Elmhurst for all their care-- especially making sure he gets his twice a day antibiotics and mid day supplements. Just look at the change in his face from his original photos. He is still a bit thin, but he is getting a lot of play time in. His coat condition is better-- but he still has a bit of dander. His energy level has increased exponentially due to the treatment for his Lyme disease and no doubt, his heart is much stronger too. We still need to do his neuter and dental, and we will be fundraising for that. I wanted to wait at least 2 months to really help his body heal. We are looking for a foster to adopt home in the Chicago area and I am going to say an adult home only-- no small kids and definitely with a family familiar with the GSP or Vizsla breeds. He seems to play well with females although he and Elvis seem to be friends now. Interested folks can submit an application at www.helpibr.org Click here for Everett's Facebook Album April 2025: Welcome handsome Everett to IBR! We are a little stumped at what might be in his mix-- perhaps German Shorthaired Pointer, or Vizsla and possibly Doberman with the tan highlights around his face and legs. He was found as a stray in the Rockford area and he was emaciated. He is still very thin and his coat shows the signs of being malnourished. He also has some old bite wounds around his face. He is a very sweet dog, was play bowing with most of the dogs in my yard. Best guess is he is 5 or older at the condition of his teeth and once he has gained enough weight we will consider a neuter and a dental. The next step in his care is getting his blood work to check his overall health and to look for underlying tick borne diseases. We are looking for a loving foster or foster to adopt home in the Chicago area (with a safe fenced in yard) to help him recover. If you are interested in helping, our application is at www.helpibr.org If you would like to help with his medical and food expenses we have PayPal at www.illinoisbirddogrescue.org VENMO @illinoisbirddogrescue and ZELLE with info@illinoisbirddogrescue.org If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application.
