My story

Introducing Buckley — a majestic creature who clearly believes he was sent to this Earth to be admired and adored. With sleepy eyes that say, “I was napping, but I guess I’ll accept your affection,” and a face that’s practically begging to be squished, Buckley is basically a living stuffed animal… if stuffed animals occasionally snored and demanded belly rubs like royalty. He’s so fluffy he might accidentally get mistaken for a St. Bernard, especially when he’s dramatically lounging like the misunderstood soul dog he is. As a foster, he’s been ridiculously easy — almost suspiciously so. Like, is this a trap? Too sweet, too cuddly, and way too good at guilt-tripping you into extra hugs. Honestly, he’s probably part dog, part therapist. Buckley, aka Buck, is a 2.5-year-old, 80lb Great Pyrenees/Aussie/Anatolian Shepherd mix, also known as “the canine version of a designer cocktail you didn’t know you needed.” He’s got the looks, the fluff, and the attitude – basically, a walking “Best in Show” poster. Buckley came to us after his previous human fell on hard times and wanted to make sure this big guy ended up somewhere safe. Because clearly, we’re suckers for big fluffy perfection wrapped in a stubborn, opinionated wrapper we welcomed him to our fluffy butt family. Now, Buckley tolerates other dogs. Like a grumpy older brother who sighs loudly every time the younger sibling breathes too close. He’s not out here organizing playdates or exchanging pup cups – he just prefers humans, especially the kind that know how to give proper belly rubs and respect his personal space. He’s had to remind the resident dog more than once that he is not the one to fulfill their dreams of playing all day long and bumping butts until the sun comes up – all while maintaining a shocking amount of patience for a dog who’s clearly over everyone else’s nonsense. So, he isn't eternally playing the role of a teacher...Buckley would love it if his new home didn't have a dog that is constantly in his face begging to play and get into some shennagians. Another calm and collected dog would very much be preferred. Cats? Unknown in his current foster home. But according to his previous person, he cohabitated with the “purrinators” just fine. So either he’s a cat-friendly legend… or he just didn’t care enough to chase them. Either way, we’ll take it. Humans, on the other hand? Total fan. Buckley is patient, loving, and gives major “soul dog” energy. He’s fantastic with the kids in his foster home (ages 10 and 12), making sure he always knows their exact location like a slightly fluffier version of a GPS tracker. As for toddlers? Well... he’s a big boy, and when his humans return from running errands like they’ve been gone forever, he gets excited. Like, jump-up-and-smother-you-with-love excited. So yes, he might knock over a small child in his quest for welcome-home hugs. At first, he might seem a little reserved when meeting new people, but once he decides you’re worthy, he’ll be your biggest fan. Buckley’s energy? Well, imagine a sloth that occasionally channels a koala… and that’s basically where he’s at. He’s perfectly content on a leash, happy to do a little exploration, but let’s be real – the idea of adventuring is more of a "maybe one day, but not today" situation. He’s fully embraced the indoor dog life and is happy to leave the days of being an outside dog well behind him. He happily waltzed into his foster's house and made himself right at home. When you get home, Buckley greets you with all the excitement of a dog who thinks you're the best thing since belly rubs — which, let's be honest, he probably does. But don’t worry, it quickly fades to a calm, “I’ll just be over here napping while you exist.” He’s a snuggle bug who would literally live his life just getting kisses and pets while making sure his humans are safe and sound... and probably not leaving him alone too long. Despite being told he’s a runner, we’ve yet to see Buckley participate in anything that even remotely resembles a jog. More like a leisurely stroll to the couch. Toys? Nope, doesn’t even know what those are. His idea of fun is 100% about human interaction, belly rubs, and a cozy spot on the couch. As for the yard situation, Buckley would do just fine with either a securely fenced yard or no yard at all, as long as there’s a leash walk and a steady supply of cuddles. When outside, he does his business and is back in faster than you can say “snuggle time.” He lived the role of an outdoor dog once, and he has no interest in going back now that he has discovered the joys of this nifty thing called an air conditioner. He’s really just in it for the warm, comfy vibes and human companionship. Buckley? Potty trained? Of course he is. The fact that he was previously an outside dog had us wondering how that would play out, but surprise – he’s been nothing short of perfect. Not a single accident. It’s almost as if he came with a built-in potty training manual that no one told us about. As for being kenneled, well, we haven’t had to bother with that as his house manners are top-notch. Buckley? A menace to shoes, furniture, or your dignity? Not even close. For a dog with a mix of breeds that practically screams “mischief potential,” he’s shockingly... boring in the best way. No chewing, no counter surfing, no trash exploration, and definitely no backyard excavation projects. It’s almost suspicious how well-behaved he is. He doesn’t channel a beaver, raccoon, or mole. Buckley? Oh, he’s absolutely not applying for the role of Neighborhood Town Crier. In fact, his resume reads more like “stoic monk in a dog costume.” We’ve only heard him bark once—and even that felt more like a polite social obligation than a genuine vocal effort. He wasn’t even the one starting it—he just briefly chimed in while our resident chatterbox was yelling at the neighbor’s dog. One bark, and back to silent observation like the dignified gentleman he is. Meanwhile, our dog loses his mind over every leaf that twitches, and Buckley just watches like, “Really? You’re yelling again?” He seems to consider barking beneath him—unless, of course, it’s absolutely necessary… which, apparently, it hardly ever is. So, if you're in the market for a big, fluffy, low-maintenance dreamboat who won’t redecorate your home via chewing, doesn’t scream at ghosts like some other dogs we know, and has all the charm of a sleepy grandpa wrapped in a teddy bear suit—Buckley is your guy. Don’t overthink it. You need this majestic snuggle loaf in your life. Just do the right thing—fill out that adoption app at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can forward it to his foster family. Then plan your epic journey to Muskogee, OK, where you can pick up your new best friend and be judged lovingly by his soulful eyes in person. Seriously, he’s waiting. Probably napping. But definitely waiting.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Buckley, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
