My story

Meet Homer – A Gentle Soul Learning to Trust Homer is a 1-year-old Norwegian Elkhound who came to us as a stray, and it’s clear he’s had a rough start. When he first arrived, he was beyond fearful shut down, overwhelmed, and unsure of the world around him. No one came to claim him, but with time and patience from our staff, Homer is slowly starting to come out of his shell. He’s still learning how to be a dog. Things like leashes, toys, and human interaction are all new to him. Loud noises make him drop to the ground, and pulling on a leash can leave him frightened. But even with all that fear, Homer wants to connect—you can see it in his eyes. He’s curious, and when he feels safe, his sweetness shines through, especially when he leans in for gentle kisses. Homer isn’t ready for a high-energy household or young children. He needs a calm, patient family who understands that decompressing takes time. With love, consistency, and a peaceful environment, Homer has every chance to grow into the confident, happy pup he was always meant to be. If you’re the kind of person who finds beauty in the quiet victories—like a tail wag or a brave step forward—Homer is waiting for you.
