My story

Calling all chihuahua lovers! If you love a chihuahua full of personality, Zorro may very well be your little guy! This little fox is a very portable 9-pounds. He is supposedly 13.5 years old (per paperwork) but if that’s his true age, he didn’t get the memo because his foster thinks he acts more like 9 years old as he is alert, has all his faculties and is spry! Zorro checks many boxes when it comes to being an easy companion. He is housebroken! Zorro does all his business outside, even in inclement weather (which, we admit, is not his cup of tea but he puts on a brave face). He is also extra cute in his rain gear! He is excellent on a leash. He walks well, doesn’t pull, and is not reactive or barky to other dogs on his walks. On the contrary, as he enjoys saying hello! He relishes being outside sniffing around. Zorro loves to eat! He loves mealtimes and isn’t picky with his food. He’ll eat his whole bowl without issue. In between meals he loves (subtext: expects) delicious treats! His new favorite treat is raw apples and the little crunching sound when he eats them is adorable. He’s also happy to lick up any crumbs from your own meal too (haha!). Who needs a Dust Buster when you can have Zorro? Tied with his love of food is his love of love! Zorro LOVES to cuddle with his humans, men and women alike. His foster says that is her favorite thing about him. He’s such a ham! His favorite thing is to hop on the couch and sidle up to his human and nap. Yes, that’s right - he can get up on the couch ALL BY HIMSELF (another reason his foster thinks he is younger). He tries to help himself to the bed at times too, burrowing in true chihuahua fashion under the covers. “If I can’t be seen, then I can sleep here all night!”, we imagine he thinks. Zorro actually usually enjoys sleeping on the couch and he sleeps peacefully through the night. When he’s down, he’s down. Zorro is a chill little dude who enjoys naps and sitting by his human’s side or feet during the day. Zorro occasionally has playful moments when he may pick out a toy and toss it around for a few minutes, but most of the time you'll find him chilling out. Zorro is also a smarty pants and has mastery of several commands including: sit, lie down, stay/wait, look at me, and come. He is a good listener and learner and he aims to please. He also travels like a pro. At his size, he is extremely portable and fits into a doggy bag perfectly. This little man is ready to hit the town with you! He is perfect for city living and subway rides! He also looovvves car rides! He does not get motion sickness either. Zorro is currently in a home with 4 adult and senior dogs and does fine with them. He is often left alone with them and always without issue. There are also 2 cats in the home which he sometimes chases for fun. Last but not least, there are 2 birds who Zorro couldn't care less about. Zorro also does not have separation anxiety. When left alone, he is quiet, and he doesn't bark at strange noises or when packages are delivered. He also does not destroy or chew anything in the home. Zorro would be excellent for city and apartment living. Please note that Zorro sometimes loves his humans a little too much and wants to show other dogs in the home who's (ALLEGEDLY) boss. Typical chihuahua! He usually displays this behavior when he’s on higher ground and as a result feeling superior (like the couch or being held) and it usually is some barking and posturing. For clarity’s sake, he has never bitten anyone or any dog. Once he’s lowered to the ground, the behavior stops. He sometimes gets worried that other dogs might take something that he deems to be his, but with timely human correction/a command, he will quiet down. We think he would be fine with respectful (maybe slightly older) children and with dogs or cats that aren’t reactive to his behavior. Zorro enjoys the calm and quiet and would be wonderful as a solo pet too. He needs an owner who understands this behavior and is willing to work with and correct him when it occurs. If you have had a spicy chihuahua before, this behavior may be nothing new to you. Zorro loves his humans hard! Zorro is truly a wonderful, loving little guy who deserves to find the best forever humans who will give him all the crunchy apples he deserves, and who will spoil him in his golden years, which we hope will be many! A meet and greet for Zorro can be arranged in or around Old Bridge, NJ or in NYC (Manhattan).

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Zorro, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
