My story

Please read the pet description IN IT'S ENTIRETY before applying.  Thank you for your cooperation. Look for video in comments! NOT YET TAKING APPLICATIONS – NOT YET AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION NEW INTAKE 4/12/2025:  Maricopa - female - approx 5 years old - 22.62 pounds - Schnauzer/Poodle mix Reason for intake:  Wow.  Her nightmare has ended!  Maricopa came to us from the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter.  They had already given her something for the OVERWHELMING NUMBER OF FLEAS that COVERED her body pretty much eating her alive.  In the collage, you'll see a picture of her back.  She had a huge mound of matting on her back.  We sheered it off.  The black that you see is FLEA DIRT... basically flea POOP mixed with her blood.  If you go to the video in the comments, you'll see when we lather her up and scrub her back... the foam is pink in color from her blood.  How? How does someone watch this day after day?  How does someone watch an animal suffer and not do anything about it?  She came to the shelter as a stray so we'll likely never know who she belonged to.  Whoever it was should be subjected to the same amount of fleas she was subjected to for who knows how long.  Once we bathed her and got some of the matting off of her, we sent her to our groomer to spruce her up (picture in comments).  She'll be heading to our vet the week of April 21 for everything she needs.  She's the happiest girl... wagging her tail and just so precious.  Stay tuned for more information on this precious girl. NOT TAKING APPLICATIONS:  Many dogs, particularly breeder, hoarder or senior dogs, can have multiple medical issues that need addressed.  Additionally, sometimes we take in young puppies requiring multiple vaccinations and/or quarantining.   In this particular case, we are not yet taking applications either due to age or possible illness or some other reason.  We will post when s(he) is ready for adoption.  In the interest of fairness, EARLY application submissions will NOT be considered.  Please note…  we cannot respond to messages/emails, etc., on dogs that are NOT yet available for adoption.  Please wait until the dog is available for adoption.  We will post him or her on Facebook in our Adoptable Dog Album pinned to the top of our page which you can follow at this link:  https://www.facebook.com/share/1B46skRWF5/ OR you can keep checking our website at www.roadtorescuela.org.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”  ~ Gandhi Be responsible ~  Always spay/neuter, keep your dogs on heartworm prevention, vaccinate against disease... and if you bring a pet into your life, commit to that pet for life.  Blessings.
