My story

Patches is a beautiful calico who enjoys being brushed and likes having her belly petted. She is 9 years old (born 7/10/2015) and she is a very big girl weighing in at 25 pounds. She lived for the last 6 years with some seniors who shared their love for her with extra food (too much extra food). In her new home, she needs to go on a weight loss program as her ideal weight is about 12 pounds. This needs to be slow, gradual weight loss and exercise will be helpful too. She is front declawed and she must remain an indoor only cat as she has been her entire life. Patches was first adopted in 2019 and provided many years of wonderful companionship to her adopters until recently when their health started to fail them and they had to move into a living situation where she couldn’t follow them. She is a very sweet cat once she knows that she is in a safe place. She will be timid initially and will hide from visitors. An ideal adopter will have patience with her as she becomes comfortable in a new setting and begins to show more of her true self. Your patience will be rewarded by her very sweet nature as she works her way into your heart. She is mostly a quiet cat but she has a big purr when she is being brushed or petted. She is also a master biscuit maker who loves to knead on soft blankets. With her original family, she used to like to sleep with them and we suspect that she will want to do so in her new home eventually too. She will also enjoy sitting on your lap after an adjustment period. She isn’t a huge fan of being picked up which may be a good thing because she would provide someone a big workout for their arms due to her size. Patches isn’t particularly playful currently but she does watch a laser pointer pass her by without chasing it. Perhaps a new family will find a toy that she enjoys – a catnip toy may be a good option to try. She has never lived with dogs or children and although she lived with cats in the rescue several years ago, we are not sure how she would do with cats now but a slow, proper introduction may be fine. Ask us today about this sweet beautiful gal!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Patches, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
