My story

Meet Rufio—a lovable, tail-wagging bundle of joy who’s always ready to make a new friend. This super friendly boy thrives on attention and absolutely lives for pets and cuddles. Whether you're relaxing on the couch or hanging out in the yard, Rufio will be right by your side, leaning in for a scratch behind the ears or a belly rub. Don’t let his chill moments fool you—Rufio is full of playful energy and always ready for fun! He’s happiest when he has a toy in his mouth and a playmate nearby. Rufio also knows basic commands and loves learning new things, especially when there are treats involved. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate, and fun-loving companion, Rufio might just be your perfect match. When I arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter from their partner shelter in Oklahoma, I tested positive for Heartworm. The staff believes that the best place for Heartworm positive dogs like me to be while going through treatments and recovering is with a loving and forever family like yours. If you choose to adopt me, the clinic staff will be with you every step of the way, answering questions and offering support. The process from detection to the final treatment is generally three months and involves some simple at-home steps to keep me safe while I recover. The last step in the process is a follow-up test six months after my treatment begins. The Heartworm treatment process is highly successful and the staff anticipates that I will fully recover! Yeah! And you should know that Heartworm can only be transmitted from animal to animal by mosquitoes. Stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (6 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.
