My story

Introducing: Dopey – Our Beautifully Complicated Boy Ah, Dopey. A name that conjures up visions of sleepy cuddles and goofy antics. And yes—he does have his moments of endearing derpiness. But make no mistake: Dopey is not here for your basic cuddly cat narrative. He’s here to tell his own story, one slow blink and dramatic hiss at a time. This striking young black-and-white gentleman is a walking contradiction: bold and cautious, curious and skeptical, soft and spicy. He’s like a little tuxedo-wearing poet who’s been burned before—once bitten by life, twice shy, and not entirely convinced that your fingers aren’t plotting something suspicious. You see, Dopey once lived in a home, so he’s not some hardened street cat—he knows what a couch is, how to work the angles of a sunbeam, and how to supervise your daily tasks from exactly 3 feet away with a healthy dose of side-eye. But somewhere along the way, something shook his faith in people. And now he’s learning, slowly but surely, that not every hand means harm. Some hands mean treats. Some hands mean wand toys. And some hands, he’s starting to suspect, might even mean love. He’s got a long memory, a big personality, and a heart that is cautiously beginning to unfurl like a flower that’s just not sure if it's spring yet. He may never be the “sits in your lap and lets you smoosh his face” kind of cat—but that’s okay. What Dopey will be is real. Honest. Brave. He’s the cat who lets you earn every inch of trust, and then rewards you with slow blinks, little chirps, and the quiet joy of being chosen by someone who doesn't give their affection away easily. Watching him grow more confident every day is like witnessing the world’s smallest revolution: he’ll creep a little closer during playtime, start showing off with bunny kicks, maybe even stretch out in full “flop mode” when he thinks you’re not looking. He’s trying. And it’s kind of the most beautiful thing ever. He gets along well with other cats, especially those who respect his personal space and share his mutual “we don’t do clingy” lifestyle. He’d thrive in a calm, patient home with cat-savvy humans who know that love can be loud and boisterous—or it can be quiet, slow, and served with a side of cautious sass. So, if you're the kind of person who finds joy in the small victories—like the first time he doesn’t hiss when you walk by, or the day he actually chooses to sit near you—Dopey just might be your guy. He’s not perfect. He’s not easy. But he’s real. And real love? Well, that’s always worth the wait. Adopt Dopey. Let him be afraid and brave at the same time. Let him take his time. And in the end, let him choose you.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dopey, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
