Cowgirl is a 3-year-old Corgi/Pembroke Welsh and American Blue Heeler mix with the biggest ears and the most endearing personality! She’s a quirky, sensitive girl who’s still figuring out the world around her. While she’s not super familiar with leashes yet, she’s learning a little more each day with the help of her patient foster. Cowgirl is making progress with potty training every day! She’s incredibly smart—she’s already figured out how to open doors and do stairs (mostly!). Though she's nervous, Cowgirl has shown that she can settle once she feels safe. She's not very interested in treats or toys yet, and while she’s still learning how to enjoy affection, she clearly wants to connect—she just needs a calm, patient home to help her build confidence at her own pace. She would likely thrive in a home where she can decompress and blossom once she settles in. Cowgirl is fast, clever, and a little bit of a parkour artist—she’s got the zoomies down to an art form. With love, time, and understanding, Cowgirl is sure to become the loyal little shadow she’s meant to be. She just needs someone to give her the chance. When Cowgirl arrived at Anderson Humane from one of our partner shelters in Oklahoma, she tested positive for Heartworm. But don’t worry—this sweet girl is on the road to recovery, and she just needs a loving home to see her through it! The staff here believes that the very best place for a Heartworm-positive pup like Cowgirl to recover is with a forever family who can provide her with the comfort, patience, and love she deserves. If you choose to adopt Cowgirl, our amazing clinic team will be with you every step of the way to answer questions and offer support. Heartworm treatment typically takes about three months and includes a few simple at-home steps to help her stay calm and safe while healing. The last step is a follow-up test six months after treatment begins. The good news? The treatment is highly successful, and we fully expect Cowgirl to make a complete recovery! And just so you know—Heartworm is only transmitted by mosquitoes and can’t be passed from dog to dog. Cowgirl is ready to find her person and start her next chapter. Could that be you? For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. All of our dogs and puppies go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (for dogs 7 months and older). They are also up to date on core vaccines, as well as heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Each adoption includes a 3.5-pound bag of dog or puppy food and a free vet exam at one of our participating veterinary partners.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cowgirl, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
