Maxi (ACCT-A-218252) is a sweet, mellow 3-year-old fella who was found as a stray. In our care, Maxi has shown himself to be a gentle soul. He's a little shy at first, especially with handling, but he warms up when given time and patience. He walks calmly with a loose leash, loves to explore with his nose to the ground, and takes treats gently. Maxi isn't too interested in toys yet—he's more about quiet companionship and easy strolls. He’s been neutral when seeing other dogs, showing polite curiosity without reactivity. Maxi would thrive in a calm home with someone willing to let him build trust at his own pace—and once he does, you'll have a sweet, steady companion by your side. Ready to give Maxi the loving home he deserves? Meet Maxi at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10 am to 6 pm BEHAVIOR 04/23/2025 staff notes: Approached the kennel and he was sleeping. I made a kissy noise and he woke up and remained laying down. I tossed in a treat and he ate it and did not get up. I offered another at the gate and he slowly rose and took it gently. I showed him the leash and he was unfazed, still sitting with whale eye, ears to the side. I did a test lasso and he flinched, and then turned his head and body away from me, still sitting. I left some treats and will try again. I went back 30 min later he was at the front, and allowed me to leash him right away. Walks with a loose leash, high tail, nose to the ground. In attempts to pet him he flinched a few times, otherwise was unfazed. He did come to me as I was sitting down, he was facing away from me and stood with his leg touching my knee. No interest in toys or playing, limited interest in treats but when he did he took them gently. Tail high not wagging outside, ears to the side, mouth closed. He saw a small dog while walking and was unfazed and ignored the dog. He saw the same dog from in the pen and did the pointer stance. He was easy to return to kennel. He shook his head multiple times outside (ear infection?) 04/21/2025 medical staff notes: TTA - Unable to perform initial exam due to behavior - Dog would attempt to bite when trying to restrain or muzzle. Seemed to be defensive behaviors - scared nervous more than aggressive . Use caution when handling . 04/21/2025: finder described him as "fine around strangers, animals, and children," and he walks nicely on leash with just a little pulling. MEDICAL: Per intake exam on 4/21: - not able to place microchip due to behavior - clear eyes, pink , possibly stress - could not examine ears, possibly infected, frequent head shaking . - slightly discolored yellow teeth . pink gums , appeared to be moist - Male intact with two testicles - QAR (quiet, alert, responsive) attitude - Fractious - Overall Assessment: will attempt to vaccinate/microchip after medication. Behavior notes: Do not attempt to touch dogs head, dog will try to bite . seems very scared nervous - behaviors seem to be defensive reactions. , Use Caution When Handling.
