Meet Bells, a petite sweetheart with a big heart and a soft spirit. Recently surrendered due to her family moving out of state, Bells spent the last year growing up in a loving home surrounded by people of all ages—from toddlers to tweens—and even a few feline friends! She’s crate-trained, knows her name, and responds to commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “leave it.” Her favorite pastimes include tug-of-war, snuggling with her people, and exploring the great outdoors. In the shelter, Bells has been gentle and quiet. She walks nicely on leash, enjoys sniffing the world around her, and although initially reserved, she warms up with time and kindness. She’s shown that she really blossoms when in the company of another playful, confident dog, and she absolutely lights up during gentle, on-leash play. While she may come off shy at first—especially around new dogs—her heart is full of love and she thrives on affection once she feels safe. Bells would love a calm but active home where she can cuddle up at night, enjoy daily walks, and be surrounded by people who understand that sometimes the sweetest dogs are the ones who need a little patience to shine. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a gentle soul and playful side, Bells might just be the perfect match. Behavior Notes: Per staff 4/25/25: Bells was easy to leash and lead out of kennel. She walked nicely down the rows and enjoyed sniffing around once outside. She did not solicit attention and preferred to just sniff, but would allow petting. She sat for treats, but did not eat them. Was easy to return to kennel. PGN 4/24/25: good gate greeting, steerable with water, loose at gate, nervous/submissive, push pull 4/23/25: Eval: Approached the kennel and she was sitting at the door, soft eyes, soft wagging tail, lip licks. I opened the door and she moved back and did a small bark/growl, then came forward and allowed me to leash her. She pulled lightly to the outside and was tentative to be there. Walking with hunched body, head low, tail low not wagging, ears back. I touched her back and sides and she solicited more and allowed me to handle her all over. She continued to solicit pets. She was interested in the toys and play momentarily but disengaged very quickly. Met Orie and they played on leash, she blossomed and her fear seemed to melt away playing with him! She was tentative to go back inside and once inside walked on a loose leash back to her kennel. Had to help her up inside and was easy to remove the leash.
