Starling tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. She will likely need time to warm up to her new home. Due to her displaying signs of overstimulation and having a bite/scratch history we recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred AND be well counseled in overstimulation. She may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced. A volunteer writes:Eight month old Starling was found in the street by a Good Samaritan. She was friendly although wary when she came to the care center but she feels now so much better. I would call her ...Darling. Starling is a pretty young gal, a little elegant Tortie with expressive eyes who welcomes quietly her visitors, leans into pets and even purrs. She is still a bit unsure, wondering if we mean 100 percent well but she is way on her way to trust us and the potential adopters who will open her kennel for a meet and greet. As she came in as a skittish youngster, Starling should go to experienced owners who will provide a safe, stable and loving environment to give her the chance to grow into a wonderful and happy pet. Endearing Starling is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.I am looking for a home with a patient person.I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.I have lived with cats at ACC and I'm doing well with them in the Free Roaming Room, so I would likely do well in a multi-cat home. Primary Color: Tortoiseshell Weight: 7.9 Age: 0yrs 9mths 3wks
