For Adoption: Lemon! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. I'd like to introduce you to the beautiful 6-year-old Mini Golden Doodle, Lemon. She’s medium-sized, weighing about 35lbs, and though she is a doodle, she does shed her luscious apricot coat, with bits of grey around her eyes and mouth—so regular brushing and grooming is needed. She has a few thinner areas on her back, which are assumed to be from malnutrition or neglect from the mill, but they should grow in soft and curly like the rest of her as she is well cared for. Lemon, or affectionately called Lyly by her foster mama, is incredibly sweet-natured. Super friendly, enjoys meeting new people and dogs, and immediately rolls onto her back for belly rubs. She could spend her entire day getting pets. Lyly is a former mama from a puppy mill. She was one of the “model moms” the mill would show potential adopters, as they couldn’t show the condition the true mamas were in. Because of this, she can be timid and still needs a bit of coaxing to eat her meals. With gentle love and patience, she is learning how to be a dog and enjoy the safety of her new world. She is still learning how to play—we’re working on it! She’ll fetch a ball once or twice, then immediately come back over for more pets. She gets very excited when she knows she’s heading out for a walk and loves to spend time outside. Lemon would like a quieter home with a family that is generally home during the day. Someone who works from home or is retired would be ideal, as she doesn’t like to be left alone for long periods of time. If she’s not being actively engaged by her people, she patiently waits for them to join her on the couch for cuddles. She would be a great apartment dog, as long as she gets her daily walks. She is very low-energy—about a half hour of walking is her max before she’s ready for a nap. She’s generally very quiet and has only barked occasionally at animals (particularly horses) on the television. Lyly is great on leash: incredibly curious and confident, though still getting used to the rush of traffic on a busy street. She occasionally jumps if something unexpected scares her. Her foster family usually sticks to quieter streets or trails to build her confidence and socialize her. She would be suited for a rural setting, small town, or quiet subdivision but will not be suited to busy city living or on a main busy road. Lyly’s best trait is her pure, gentle affection—she loves belly rubs and quietly nestles next to you for comfort. She’s a dream to groom: very calm with brushing and has shown no negative reaction. She sometimes needs to be gently lifted into her crate. She does not like eating in her crate, but otherwise handles her crate time with quiet patience. And be warned: she will absolutely steal your spot on the couch—no matter how much room there is. Lemon is great on car rides—she enjoys looking out the window and will lie down to rest during the drive. She has been very gentle with all dogs she's met so far and would prefer a middle-aged or older dog who can be a calm companion and role model. She’s not a match for a playful puppy, as she prefers her space and calm energy. She would also be just fine being the only dog and getting all the attention. She enjoys watching wildlife and loves watching squirrels and birds on her walks. We do not know how she does with cats. We suspect she would be fine with a dog savvy cat that wouldn’t run from her or react to her. Lyly would not like a home with little hands—older children (over 8yrs of age) or adults would be best, as she appreciates calm and gentle attention. Lemon comes when called and is working on learning to “sit.” She would benefit from some basic obedience training, which would help build her confidence and give her structure. She’s eager to please and has a gentle nature that responds well to encouragement. Lyly has been spayed and is up to date on all her vaccinations. She did very well at the vet and even wore her bodysuit like a champ during recovery. There are no known health concerns at this time. Lemon is a sweet, gentle soul who needs a quiet, loving home with someone who’s around most of the day. She’d thrive with another calm dog, or as your one-and-only cuddle bug. With patience, she’ll continue blossoming into the happy dog she was always meant to be. She is a special girl who deserves the absolute best out of everything in life.
