Meet Harp, a 1-year-and-9-month-old, 35-pound bundle of smarts, spunk, and snuggles. This girl is a toy connoisseur—she'll happily entertain herself with her favorite squeaky or rope, or invite you into a game of tug-of-war. She’s the kind of pup who might just convince you that a BarkBox subscription is a *necessity*, not a luxury. When Harp plays, she plays with gusto! She can be vocal during her toy time, but it’s all in good fun—her loose body and big tail wags say it all. She’s incredibly trainable, thanks to her love for both toys and treats. She already knows “sit” and “down,” and responds well to gentle redirection using a simple “eh eh” followed by the right command. Yes, she’ll jump up to say hello (and maybe sneak in a smooch or two), but she’s quick to respond to “off.” After her play sessions, Harp transforms into a world-class snuggler. She’ll climb right up next to you on the couch, trying her hardest to get as close as possible—often standing on you for those well-earned kisses. She has a great off-switch and settles down beautifully once her energy is out. Harp is house and crate trained, and she’s even done well being left out overnight. She’s a fantastic car buddy and would make an amazing adventure partner—she loves exploring and is always up for the ride. While she can pull a bit on leash when she’s excited, her petite size makes it manageable, and she's likely to improve the longer she’s out of the shelter environment. She’s great for a bath, staying calm and cooperative, but she’s not a fan of having her nails clipped—something to keep in mind when it’s spa day. Harp has had wonderful experiences with older children and enjoys their company. However, due to her playful energy and tendency to jump up, she may accidentally knock over toddlers, so a home with bigger kids might be the best fit. She may do best in a home without cats or with a dog-savvy cat who gives her space. She’s done well with other dogs, especially calm ones who aren’t looking for a lot of play. She’s had success in foster care with another dog after a slow introduction over several days. If you’re looking for a playful, loving, intelligent companion who’s just as happy hiking trails as she is curled up on the couch, Harp might just be your perfect match. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Harp, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
