My story

Woody will break your heart… and then reassemble it better than it was before. There’s something so irresistibly quirky, so soft and hopeful about him.He has the grace of a cartoon deer on ice - a wobbly but willing spirit that makes you want to slow-clap your way into a standing ovation.Woody flirts, but not in the obvious way - no wag-and-lick blitz, no boisterous charge. Instead, he does this ridiculous little dance that's part Elaine from Seinfeld, part inflatable tube man outside a used car lot: he prances, bends and waves, tiptoes closer with a sideways shuffle - like he’s rehearsing how to fall in love without getting hurt.Because he has been hurt. You can feel it.And still, he tries, because he wants to trust. He wants to belong. And when he decides you’re safe? When he takes that slow, brave step and melts his soft body into yours? He doesn’t just lean in. He gives in.Suddenly, you’re the center of the universe.Woody is about 40 pounds of scruffy, soulful hound, nearly 2 years old, with eyes that whisper every word he doesn’t say out loud.He adores other dogs, especially the little ones. His best friend was a tiny guy named Small Fry, and Woody watched over him like a gentle big brother - nosing through the fence when Fry cried, offering soft kisses and even softer eyes.Woody isn’t pushy. He’s polite, house-mannered, and careful, like a dog who’s memorized the rules in case breaking one sends him back. He’s not loud. Not destructive.Just present. Hopeful. Ready. He is heartworm-positive, but Animal Aid covers the full cost of treatment, even after you bring him home. What Woody needs is someone who sees his effort, notices how hard he tries, and celebrates every quiet victory on the long road to trust.Woody is waiting for that someone at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton. You can visit him from 9am to noon any day, weekends and holidays included.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Woody, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
