A volunteer writes:How did he get that way? You might think so, right, just looking at Manor, a senior who was brought to us by a Good Samaritan...Indeed, Manor is unkempt, thin and came in dehydrated to the care center. He likely spent some time on the street, struggling to find water, food and shelter. He seems SAVVY, though and knows that humans can be a source of "good". He is curious, leaves his hiding spot and comes forward to meet me. I have presents that he samples and even a catnip toy that sends him slowly rolling on the kennel floor. He comes for petting, leans, head bunts and even emits a faint purr. It's like I "hit a button in his head" and reminded him that may be, once upon a time he was a cherished pet. Who knows? Well, it is never too late to be happy again, one is never too old to love or be loved again... Manor needs a safe and caring place for his golden years, the only place he will ever remember and that is your home. Come and meet Manor at the Manhattan Care Center.I have medical needs that staff will address with you when you meet me.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.I am a sweet, social, older gentleman, looking for the perfect forever home!Manor tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in new home adjustment and uncomfortable with pick up.
