While Suzie is initially fearful she has warmed up to staff and caretakers during her stay. As her length of stay increases, Suzie displays intense reactivity to other dogs in her kennel and during walks. She pulls and lunges toward other dogs while growling and screeching. In her kennel, she lunges, screeches, and bites the kennel door when other dogs pass her kennel. Medically, Suzie has a healing wound. A volunteer writes: Suzie resembles a jet-black little piglet. She is petite (43lbs) and short, with a waddle that makes us squeal in delight. Her face is simultaneously serious and goofy, and we tell her over and over how much we love her as she chases balls and brings them back in exchange for another. Watching Suzie simply walk around might be one of the great pleasures of life, but once she is tired from fetch we discover a second: rubbing her mushy face and watching her ears flop about.Suzie was found in a parking lot one morning, walking around with a leash and collar. She arrived at the care center and was shaking nervously, but friendly and allowed all the intake handling. When she met a dog at the shelter early in her stay she was fearful, briefly greeted him at the gate and then fled to seek an exit. But her fearfulness has increased to reactivity. Suzie would do best without kids and other dogs for now due to her observed fear and reactivity.What my friends at ACC say about me:I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I can be slow to adjust to new environments.
