Nelson

My story

Nelson is 7 years old and weighs 71 pounds, more of him to love. His family was not able to take him when they moved. Nelson is walked by volunteers and joins morning doggy playgroups. He would need to meet any potential dogs prior to going home. On his recent Dog Day Out (a field trip away from the shelter), it sounds like he had a great day - `Had a lovely Dog Day Out with Nelson yesterday. This absolute gentleman and I took a short, gentle stroll on a local trail where he enjoyed the sights and smells. Then I laid out a blanket and he was happy to have a nap. We were in a quiet area surrounded by trees and birdsong, and we enjoyed the peacefulness. He was great in the car, loading himself up and laying in the back seat. He kept a very loose leash on our walk and took treats very delicately. He had a very relaxed and gentle demeanor, and it was a privilege to spend time with him.”Nelson was a total dreamboat on another Dog Day Out! Here is what they had to say, `He was the perfect gentleman—calm, well-mannered, and great with my 8-year-old daughter. We strolled through Loose Park, had a picnic, and he loved sniffing around before settling in to walk by my side. Nelson knows `sit` and `shake,` and while he was a little unsure about laying down in a busy restaurant setting, he was incredibly well-behaved and patient. He wasn’t too interested in other dogs or people, just happy to be out and about. My daughter’s already asking when she can visit him again—he made quite the impression!`He has been neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines.His ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. In an effort to help dogs with longer stays, those who are deteriorating in the shelter environment, or who are harder to place find homes more quickly, the adoption fee for this dog has been waived.
