Meet Cricket! You may not guess it just by looking at him, but this hefty boy is only seven months old. Though he's still just a puppy, poor Cricket has already been surrendered to the shelter twice - once due to his owner's pregnancy, then again due to his owner's child developing allergies. Cricket may not have had the best luck so far, but despite everything he remains an optimistic, happy-go-lucky pup who loves people with his whole heart! Cricket's previous families described him as a playful boy who loves children, and lived happily with kids as young as 5 months old. In his first home, he shared the household with many other dogs, though he has not lived with them in recent months. When it comes to cats, Cricket is actually scared of them, but seems curious about them and may be open to a cat companion. Cricket is very active, knows sit, and loves treats - but most of all, he just loves to be around his people. Cricket is hoping third time's the charm, and that there's a fur-ever family out there who won't give up on him. In return, he promises to shower his new family with all the slobbery kisses and affection they could ever ask for. Within just minutes of our car ride he rolled over on his back for belly rubs. We had just met!!! He did extremely well in our truck, an absolute passenger Prince. When we arrived to our destination he was a bit hesitant of jumping down/out of the truck to which he willingly allowed my husband to pick him up, like a biggggg baby. We walked through crowds with ease. While he does not pull on the leash at all, he could use some very minor leash training. He often zig-zagged walking left to right and right to left, but to no fault of his own as I’m sure he has not been on a leash much. People of all ages stopped us often asking if they could pet him to which he soaked up all the pets and rubs eagerly. We passed a pet store and the owners invited him in and spoiled him with all the treats. He was truly treated like the superstar he is. He knows “sit” and took treats so gently despite being a bigggg puppy. While in the store he sniffed around curiously however was respectful like a true gentleman. During our outing we grabbed some ice cream and apparently he loves Vanilla! We saw many dogs in passing and while he noticed them, he was not reactive and easily redirectable. Cricket was as a cool as a cucumber and really well behaved. Not one qualm about him! We are so lucky to have spent the day with him!” Per staff 8/9: “Dream of a dog. Fully housetrained cuddle bug. Brought home for a sleepover and he met both of my cats and was fine. good boy. velcro dog” Per staff 8/8: “Kennel Presentation: cricket was standing at the front his kennel with soft eyes, a loose and wiggly body and a mid level tail wag. I was able to easily leash him. Leash Skills: cricket pulls moderately to strongly on leash Sociability: Cricket solicits attention with a loose wiggly body. He accepts pets all over and will roll over to allow belly rubs. He knows sit and will take treats. He can be a bit jumpy and mouthy at times but is easy to redirect. Play: no interest in toys Dog Interaction: n/a Return to Kennel: I threw a treat in the kennel and he followed it right in. Color Level: gold” Per staff 8/6: Playgroup notes, “Steerable with water, bouncy, puppy energy, curious, social, wiggly, submissive, does give small corrections” Per owner 8/5: “Calm and playful, likes to sleep. Lived with children and a dog. High energy, very active. Plays a lot and is loving with strangers, playful and loving with children. Curious and scared of cats. Alert but not aggressive with dogs. The ideal home would be a loving family who lets him play in the rain, who has children for him to play with and who gives him lots of treats.” On 4/27: Cricket was adopted Per owner 4/26: “Lived with children, high energy, good on leash. Excited and friendly with children and strangers. Playful with cats, scared with dogs.”\ Medical Notes: Per an exam on 8/6: Cricket was found to be in good general health.
