My story

Meet our newest Second Chance Classic, Shadow! He checks all the boxes: Scruffy whiskers ✅ Big brown eyes 👀 ✅ 13 years old ✅ a rotting smell wafting from his mouth 🤢 🦠 🦷 ✅ significant heart disease requiring 2 medications longterm 💔 ✅ lived with kids, a cat, and another small dog ✅ and is a bit bewildered at his change in circumstances but very sweet 😍 ✅ He’s a 13lbs chi/yorkie mix with that perfect just-rolled-out-of-bed crazy wiry hair. He’s starting on heart meds and will go back to our vet in a couple weeks to get his decaying teeth pulled with some added but necessary risk, but we would love to get him settled into a home soon! Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Shadow in Northern NJ We love rescuing seniors, but it’s not cheap… Shadow’s comprehensive vet care to make up for years of lack of attention to his chronic medical issues will likely end up being about $2000+, and he’s not the only senior we have taken in this week 🤯. We try our best to help as many local seniors as possible avoid being brought to shelters or meeting much worse fates, but we need your help to continue our mission so that finances don’t have to hinder our ability to say “yes” to the many calls for help we get every week. Thank you as always for your continued support! Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
