For Adoption: Ziggy! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Meet Ziggy, a sweet four-year-old Cockapoo weighing around 25 pounds. With her lovely black and grey merle coat and striking eyes (as you can see in her pictures), Ziggy is settling into a much-deserved life of ease. Having spent her early years in a puppy mill, the world is still new to her, but she's showing herself to be a curious and social girl, adjusting beautifully in her foster home. She has learned that she likes to cuddle during naps, walking in the forest and helping with gardening. She loves to hang out in the garden and watch the birds and smell the flowers. Ziggy is a very friendly girl who is looking for a forever family to love. Ziggy is a healthy girl aside from a bout with seizures which are now controlled. About 2 weeks into our time with her Ziggy started having mild seizures. We got her to the vet and tests were done and there was no neurological issues detected and she was otherwise fine. The vet put her on phenobarbital which is a daily medication that controls the seizures. She will need to continue through her lifetime. These meds are not expensive and we can provide her potential adopter an approx. monthly cost. She has not had a seizure since but that doesn’t mean she will never have one again, this is always a possibility. The good news is though that the ones she had were mild and over quickly and she had no negative effects. Anyone interested in Ziggy will need to be ok with this possibility. She does well on her medication and is otherwise a happy and healthy young dog. Ziggy had been spayed and vaccinated and all her other vetting done. Her time at the vet is generally relaxed. She's very compliant and will take treats from the vet when they are offered. Ziggy is a beautiful girl. Her coat sheds minimally. She will require professional grooming every few months. She is good at the groomers. She doesn’t love the blow dryer but this was all new to her and for her first grooming she did awesome. She liked the other dogs that were there bopping around while she was getting her first haircut. She doesn’t mind being brushed or bathed. Ziggy is pretty compliant in most situations. It’s important to watch her body language, and take your time though so she feels at ease while she’s getting groomed at home. Though Ziggy's early life was spent as a breeding dog in a puppy mill, her future is full of promise. Her foster family is helping her discover the joys of a comfortable life and are building her confidence. To continue her progress, Ziggy would thrive in a patient and understanding home that will gently introduce her to the many wonderful aspects of the world, always respecting her comfort level. While she hasn't had direct socialization with other dogs in her foster home, we believe she would greatly benefit from having a canine companion. Ziggy is gentle with children but would be best suited for a home with older kids (8+) who understand how to interact respectfully with her. A fenced yard would be a huge bonus, providing a safe space to play. It isn’t a must for her but she would just love the freedom to run around safely. Ziggy's calm nature would also make her a wonderful companion for a retired couple looking for a loving and gentle friend. Ziggy has been working on housetraining. Her new family should be sure to keep scheduled bathroom breaks to ensure her continued success. She is good in her crate and is crated when no one is home or when no one is able to be watching her. Ziggy is good on walks but will occasionally put on the brakes if she’s not ready to come inside, or if she still needs to pee or poop. Ziggy loves her walks, she’s great on the leash. Ziggy is good in the car for short trips. She will have anxiety on longer trips (25+ min) and may pee in her crate during the drive. This is being worked on by having breaks on the longer drives and letting her sniff to relax. She has made huge strides in a short time, and we’re confident that she will come around to the longer drives with continued encouragement. At home Ziggy is pretty content to lounge around. She is content to sleep much of the day, but would appreciate a few good paced walks per day. She gets the zoomies around breakfast and dinner time (that means it’s time to play!). It took a little bit of time to get her comfortable to take treats, but now that she does it’s much easier to motivate her. She doesn’t bark at the vacuum, the neighbors’ dogs, or at guests. She will bark every once in a while if she’s under stimulated or if she’s hungry. We’re learning that she can be a little spunky! Beneath Ziggy’s initial shyness lies a delightful spark. This friendly and social girl isn't just waiting to come out of her shell; she's got a little bit of spunky energy bubbling just beneath the surface, ready to add a playful zest to your life. Imagine the joy of watching her gain confidence and let her personality shine through. If you're looking for a loving companion with a touch of playful spirit, come meet her. You might just find that her quiet charm and hidden zest make her the perfect addition to your family.
