Foster Home Feedback 4/29/25 Foster Feedback: Meet Kalani! This sweet girl's greatest dream is to find a family that offers unlimited snuggling - truly, this girl is a LOVER. Kalani would love nothing more than to climb up in your lap & snuggle! She'll settle for sitting next to you, if needed, but really prefers that "up close and personal" experience. Kalani is doing amazing at our house with our older kids (12 & up), other dogs and cats. Due to her size, Kalani tends to be a bit of a bulldozer when she's excited, which is why we recommend no tiny kiddos at home. That said, she doesn't get excited very often - overall she has a very calm temperament and is a wonderful house guest. Kalani is fully potty trained, and we're told is also crate-trained, although we have not tested that theory, because she does absolutely fine free-roaming when we're not around. Kalani has no food or resource guarding, and we haven't seen any aggressive behavior whatsoever. When she first moved in a few weeks ago, Kalani was a bit skittish - change is hard! She was particularly afraid of her foster dad and the oldest male teenager (who, in Kalani's defense, is a bit of a giant). It took a few days for her to be more comfortable around them, but this is something her adoptive family should be aware of and take it a bit slow with the men/giant males in her life. Overall this girl is truly a gem, and to know her is to love her! 09/01/23 Foster Feedback: The friendliest dog around - she is friendly with dogs, cats, and hoomans -- she is such a lovebird and will be at your side whenever she can, just waiting for an opportunity to lay her head on your lap and have you pet her. She thrives on your interactions with her, and also -- oh boy -- does she ever love to play with dogs! I do not think this dog has an ornery bone in her body. She does need, however, to improve with some manners, brought on by her excitement to see you (jumping, wild), but we are working on that. She crates well and quietly when we have to be gone. She is not destructive in her crate or in the house at all and is content to hang out on a dog bed if I am remote working. I'm telling you >> apply for Kalani today and you will be rewarded with an all-around friendly loyal dog and the best companion ever. She is excited for life. Every.Day. 07/24/2023 Foster Feedback: Kalani is a hazel-eyed beauty with the softest, white coat. She is a very happy girl who is always on the hunt for cuddles and snuggles and may seek you out in the shower to find them! She just LOVES being around her people. She loves, loves, loves affection and having her tummy rubbed. Kalani has started playing with toys, especially tennis balls – she will play contently by herself, but loves to chase after it as well. She has not destroyed any toys we have had. I have had a few human visitors and we have been outside when there have been other dogs in neighboring yards and I have never heard Kalani bark. She is still working on manners but is very treat motivated and I believe will learn quickly if you continue to work with her. She knows how to sit when waiting for her treat. She doesn’t love the kennel, only because she prefers to be at your side! I give Kalani her breakfast in her crate right before I leave and as soon as she hears her food being poured, she is waiting in her crate for me. I’ve watched her on our camera and she settles down nicely pretty quickly. She also understands what “no” means and will come to you when she’s called. Kalani has the typical puppy energy and will jump up to tell you how excited she is. We have been working on staying down and sitting before we put her leash on or what other activity we are doing, and she listens nicely. Kalani is super excited to go on walks. She zig-zags everywhere to get all the sniffs in. She is a bit of a puller on a leash, and she is strong! We were able to start walks a few days ago and have started working on the pulling. A harness may also be beneficial. We are still working on potty training. Her focus needs to be redirected as she would rather check out the bunnies and butterflies in the yard, or just stare at you. I do not have a fenced yard, and we have just been able to go for walks so I think this will help a ton! Kalani hasn’t been officially tested with other dogs yet, but we did run into a dog on one of her walks and she just stood there while the other dog got their sniffs in and then she was uninterested. There were dogs playing in our shared space last night and she watched intently from our deck, but never barked, growled, or tried to chase after them. This girl is just the sweetest and will melt your heart with her huge smile and devotion. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org April 29, 2025, 11:50 pm
