My story

If you’ve ever wanted a quiet, elegant, soulful-eyed companion who's beauty also resembles a marvelous midnight cloud, well Blackie might just be your girl! Blackie is 4 years old, weighs about 40 lbs, and while her name may not win points for originality, her sweet spirit, gentle demeanor, and quiet courage surely will. Blackie was found on a very rural property after having puppies, doing her best to survive the elements and raise her little ones without the help of kind humans (or even a decent dog bed!). Understandably, she was a bit suspicious when rescuers came to help – think “country dog meets city folks with snacks.” But after some careful trapping and a lot of gentle patience, Blackie made her way to safety in a foster home where one by one her puppies all found forever homes, and now Blackie is learning how to live a good life inside as part of a family. She’s still figuring out the whole “owning a human” thing. At first, she is very, very shy with strangers and may take a little time before she fully trusts you enough to give you the honor of a tail wag. But with that said, she is very sweet, docile, and loves to be pet. Once she knows she’s safe, her gentle soul starts to shine. She’s quiet, easy going, and sweet. She follows her humans like a shadow and she loves to cuddle up at the end of the day. She has never met a dog she didn’t get along with. She might even do best in a home with a confident and outgoing dog to show her the ropes and build her confidence! Blackie walks beautifully on a leash and rides well in the car. She's doing excellently on house training and crate training. She goes out and about town with her fosters to help her socialize and learn the beauty of the world and people in it. She has also worked with a trainer who has made excellent progress in her confidence level. What she needs and deserves now is a calm, patient family who will give her time to warm up, give lots of yummy snacks to help her come out of her shell, as well as continue to help her beautiful personality shine! She’s been through a lot, but she’s ready for a cozy corner of the world to call her own.
