My story

Meet Ping Ping’s journey started when a kind family found him wandering their neighborhood. They took him in, and instantly, he showed what a great dog he is — he hopped right into their car, was gentle with their kids and dogs, and settled into their home with ease. Crates weren’t his favorite, but he was totally fine left alone in the house while they were away. Life turned upside down when they brought him to the shelter. Ping was terrified — shaking in the corner, refusing food and treats. When staff tried to leash him, he panicked. The clock started ticking fast... he had just days left to be saved. Now, if you know rescue people, you know they’re a little bit crazy — the good kind. So off we went to Phoenix to see if we could help. When we first saw him, well... let’s just say it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. His eyes were crusted over, and “Snappy McSnapper” didn’t want anything to do with us. But fingers intact, we got him into the crate and into foster care. Fast forward past an entropion eye repair and a nasty ear infection — and meet the real Ping. He’s a total sweetheart. He adores his foster mom and dad, gives kisses, sits, and even shakes for treats. He loves car rides up to the cabin and can be found snoozing in his bed, on the sofa, in a chair — or occasionally snuggled in bed with his fosters. And the zoomies? Oh, you haven’t seen zoomies until you’ve seen Ping leap from couch to chair with the grace of an Olympic gymnast. What’s a day in the life of Ping? We’re glad you asked. With the help of cameras, we’ve watched him sun himself in the yard every morning, then retreat to his favorite indoor chaise lounge once it gets too hot (Arizona sun + black dog = not a great mix). He gives the Amazon truck a polite bark, then goes right back to snoozing. He’s house-trained, never lifts his leg indoors (unlike his rude foster brothers — one even peed on poor Ping once because he’s smaller than them!), and now weighs a healthy 40 lbs — up 10 pounds since his near-tragic shelter stay. Ping loves toys but isn’t interested in shredding them. With other dogs, he can be a bit awkward — like the quiet kid on the playground picked last. His raspy play voice doesn’t help either, but hey, he tries! He’d be fine in a home with other dogs or as the center of attention, king of the castle. Leash time? Get ready for the “Ping Dance” — he gets so excited for his walks and will make you smile every time. Are you looking for that dog — the one you’ll still be talking about 20 years from now? The one who defied the odds and turned out to be the best dog you ever had? Ping just might be your guy. Don’t let this one get awayJuly 23, 2025, 10:48 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ping, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
