My story

Say hello to this gorgeous 4-month-old girl. She and her littermate arrived on May 1st just in time for Big Day of Giving, a four-county effort to celebrate and support over 800 non-profits operating in Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, and Yolo Counties in collaboration with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation.  Millie has since settled in her San Jose-based foster home with a male and female shepherd. She's also met her foster family's extended family and their small-breed dogs, demonstrating that she's flexible with her friends and adores playing with them. She's learning that car rides mean fun excursions. Following her spay and hernia surgery discharge, she even caught a flight from Sacramento to San Jose with Pilots and Pups, a Sacramento-based volunteer pilot organization. Millie's a healthy girl who is shedding her puppy teeth and is ready for adoption.  Before her surgery, Millie went from the shelter to a temporary foster home, which allowed her to clean up with baths, sleep in the comforts of a home, and get lots of love. She shared her temporary foster home with a senior golden retriever and an adult shepherd mix.  Millie arrived from the shelter with her littermate via two-car transport legs to bring them to safety. They were initially sighted by concerned farmers who saw a mama with six puppies, leading them to organize with the local shelter to protect the family. Still, they could only initially trap four puppies. All four of those puppies were adopted by friends and family of that family. It took another two weeks before the mama and these two littermates were enticed to safety. The mama is safe and has a committed adopter, leaving her remaining two puppies needing help. We stepped in thanks to our foster families, volunteers, and the shelter staff, who made arrangements.  Both pups had baths, leaving all the mud and dirt behind. They also left behind food insecurity while living on the run in a field. They've been treated for fleas and parasites and shed their flea infestation. Although initially shy, these pups are soft, cuddly, and blossoming in the care of their fosters so much that Millie's littermate is being adopted by her initial foster family.  Please consider adopting Millie only if you have the time and commitment to raise a young shepherd puppy into a well-rounded adult dog. Investing time in training Millie will also be beneficial, as she's ready and eager to learn. Shepherd or similar working/herding dog experience is invaluable in raising puppies.  Have you visited our YouTube channel? We'd love your support by subscribing to the channel and liking and commenting on the videos we share of our current and adopted shepherds. You can also follow us on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Threads. We share lots of news and content about our shepherds.  As a foster-based rescue, ShepHeroes is always in need of fosters. An overwhelming number of shepherds in our local shelters need our help for a fresh start. Would you share your home and part of your life to help shepherds find new families? You provide the love, and we'll provide everything else! Saying "yes" today truly saves a life. Complete this  https://www.shepheroes.org/foster-form, and we'll be in touch ASAP! We appreciate your consideration. ##2379756##
