My story

Name, age, breed: Puma, 2 years old, mixed breedLikes: Playing with toys, strong chew toys, and being active with his humansDislikes: Small animals, being left under-stimulated, and being cooped up without exerciseWhat would be the ideal home? Puma is a smart, athletic boy with impressive jumping skills — think of him as your very own canine Olympian! This means standard fences are no match for him — he can scale 8 feet with ease. To keep Puma safe, adopters will need to explore creative options like tall privacy fences with lean-ins or supervised yard time only. An experienced home that understands and can manage his adventurous spirit will be key to his success. With time and familiarity with his beloved home, we believe Puma will settle in and retire his fence-jumping career. His ideal home would be calm but active, with structure, boundaries, and lots of physical and mental exercise. No apartments or off-leash time unless the area is fully enclosed and escape-proof.Good with other cats? No – not recommended around small animals or cats due to higher prey drive.Good with dogs? Possibly – only with a non-dominant, same-size or larger female or very mellow male. No small dogs.Good with children? Recommended no children under 14 – Puma is strong and excitable and needs a calm, mature environmentTemperament: Puma is a high-energy, strong, athletic dog who enjoys human interaction but requires clear boundaries and consistency. He is affectionate when calm, enjoys pets, and is motivated by toys and treats. He shows calm and sociable behavior when handled and restrained, enjoys petting, and leans in for attention. Puma does pull very hard on walks and needs leash training.Motivators? Toys (especially strong chew toys), treats, and playtime with his personAny commands? Knows “sit.” Continued training is mandatory and recommended to help build impulse control.House trained? UnknownCrate trained? UnknownHow long will it take to settle into a new environment? 3-3-3 Rule:First 3 days – Puma may be overwhelmed and test boundaries. Provide structure, quiet space, and supervised decompression time.3 weeks – He will begin to bond and show more of his playful, energetic personality. This is when training and routine should be reinforced.3 months – Puma will feel like part of the family, understand expectations, and develop into a loyal companion with a regular rou
