My story

Abigail is currently with one of our amazing fosters and ready for adoption via our virtual process! Learn more about her in foster care here: https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:VA6C2:1761ed4a-4b0f-4cb3-861a-76e37e93bf66 Meet Abigail, a 14½-year-old female 10lb Chihuahua mix with a heart full of love and a gentle soul. Don't let her age fool you! She loves her walks and still has a skip in her step. She is living proof no dog is ever too old to play and have fun! In addition to her walking adventures, this sweet senior girl lives for companionship, cozy naps and good food. So relatable! Abigail may be small, but her presence is warm and comforting—she’s looking for a calm, loving home where she can spend her golden years surrounded by care and kindness. While she can be a bit vocal announcing herself to dogs she has yet to meet, once introduced she loves spending time with other calm dogs like herself. Abigail could do well being the only dog in a home or living with other dogs. What a versatile gal! Her current foster says "Abigail has only stayed with me a few days but it’s clear what a sweet loving girl she is. She’s a bit reserved with new people, fast movements and loud noises, but already on day one was giving me kisses, leaning into me requesting more pets politely. Right away it was clear though she is a senior relatively she had impressive energy! She loves walks (though she can be vocal and tell everyone what she thinks at times) and even will chase toys when she’s in the mood between naps. By the second day she was following me around (when not napping) and was good friends with the resident dog in my home. She still hadn’t had any accidents and had quickly settled into the routine knowing the signs it was walk/ feeding time. I can only imagine what a loyal loving companion she’ll become when she has more time to settle into her next new home. Abigail is such a sweet loving girl I love when she leans into me gently when I’m petting her, and of course it makes me so happy to see how sweet she is with my dog they have quickly become great pals! Abigail is a lovely lady and though she can be vocal at times often she has important things to say! " Abigail is spayed, is vaccinated, is microchipped, and has had preventative treatments to ensure she is ready for her new home. As typical for a senior dog her age, Abigail may need some extra care that we are happy to review with any prospective adopters. So what are you waiting for? Submit an adoption survey from above and our team will reach out via email (check spam) to schedule a counseling call. For any additional questions, please contact fosternyc@bestfriends.org. Please remember, pets cannot be held or reserved.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Abigail, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
