My story

Animal Profile: Scout is an adorable terrier mix who was rescued from a high kill shelter in Modesto, CA. He is estimated to be around 6 years old ~12lbs. Foster Update: Meet Scout! He may just be one of the sweetest gentleman you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting. He has a loving nature to him; greeting you with a soft tail wag. He may even roll over for some belly rubs! Scout does great in his crate  and he enjoys the company of other respectful pups. We are working with Scout on his leash manners as he can be quite vocal when passing by other dogs, but we are working with him on this. This seems to be mostly coming from insecurity, and we are working with him on his confidence and engaging with his handler so he can trust his human on the other end of the leash and not feel the need to be on the defense when out on walks. He had a successful leash training session and he showed some big improvements as we incorporated engagement exercises and worked with him on a loose leash heel. His forever family will need to be comfortable and confident continuing his leash training and managing this behavior. He has shown some interest in making friends with the resident cat, but is learning to give the cat space. Scout co-exists well with other dogs and could enjoy another respectful canine companion, but would do okay as the only dog in the home too. While Scout is very sweet and loving with his people, he does tend to be a bit more insecure in certain situations and thrives with clear boundaries to follow.  We are looking to place Scout in an adult-only home with adopters that can continue to work with him on his training.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue.  Apply Online: www.DogGoneSeattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: This dog was rescued from euthanasia at [Animal Shelter] in California, arriving to foster care in Seattle on [DATE]. This dog will be available for adoption in the greater Seattle area once evaluated in foster care.June 23, 2025, 2:08 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Scout, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
