My story

Meet Danny, who spends his days shaking in his kennel, looking for his owner. Danny was surrendered to the shelter when his owner experienced a health issue, and by the looks of it Danny was loved and well cared for. Often times, those are the dogs that struggle most in this loud shelter environment after they've been in a safe home. Danny is terrified of leaving his kennel but is open to being carried in and out. He is too scared to take treats or play with toys- all he wants to do is cuddle up close to you and know that he's safe. Danny doesn't understand why he's here...and we'd love to see him leave to a safe home very soon! Could it be you? Danny is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly. Meet him any day from 10am-6pm! He didn't walk over to me for leashing but when I came to him and leashed, he walked right out with me. I took him outside before dressing him up and he appears housebroken! He tolerated all handling getting dressed but did tremble when standing still. I went with the day trip foster to the car to make sure Danny got in okay. He put his front paws in on his own then just needed some help fully jumping in. Upon return Danny seemed much more relaxed but was nervous walking back to his kennel again. However he went right in with no issues. Behavior Eval 5/11/25: Kennel Presence: Danny is such a scared boy. It really broke my heart. When I approached Danny, he was laying on his bed shaking head to toe. I tossed some pepperoni towards him and he licked one of the pieces then just went back to shaking. Handling: You can tell he is just very scared, but not reactive at all and seems to be quite submissive. Based on his body language, I entered his kennel and slowly pet him for several minutes. He gave some tail wags when I did this so clearly was comforted by human handling. We lay there for a while, petting him and I tried multiple times to get him up and out of the kennel without any success. Gentle with taking pepperonis, but didn’t end up eating them. Finally based on body language, I picked him up and carried him out of the kennel, which he allowed, although he was still shaking. Has a very upset stomach, could be related to stress. Outside in the play yard he was still shaking slightly with alert ears and a neutral tail. Came to me for pets and took pets all over. Seemed too stressed to take treats. Went into volunteer office and very handler oriented! Really leans on his humans. Just wanted cuddles as he was very scared but leans on people. Not interested in toys or treats that I saw. Ended up carrying him almost all the way back to kennel but he saw the kennel door he jumped out of my arms to go back in. Leash: Nice on leash with minimal pulling Color: Double Blue due to being so fearful that he had to be carried in and out Per day trip 5/10: He was very comfortable to get in and out of the car. He was quite relaxed almost instantly. He was shivering the first 2 minutes when I got him but that stopped right after he sat down in the car. He enjoyed being off the leash in my fenced yard. He started exploring the surrounding quickly and became quite playful. He was happy to meet new people and was quick in warming up to them. He has this habit of following people around and likes to stay close the them even when off the leash. He doesn’t pull the leash too much and also seems to be relatively unbothered by the presence of other dogs. He was happy to accept treats but didn’t come off as extremely food driven. Play group 5/9/25: Danny was steerable at the gate and very fearful. he was nervous of everything with a lowered body and tucked tail but sought comfort in the handlers. another dog entered the yard and he began loosening up. he was trying to engage in play but was still nervous, play bowing and then running away Per Staff 5/9/25: Approach the kennel and he was laying on the bed, looked up at me and came off of the bed when I tossed in a treat and ate the treat. Open the gate and showed him the leash and he went back to his bed and laid down with head low, furrow brow, hunched body. Will try again later.
