My story

Apply to Adopt Me! Hi there! I’m Dixie, a 2-year-old, 13 1/2lb. terrier mix with a curious nose, a gentle heart, and a whole lot of love to give. If you're looking for a sweet, smart, and affectionate pup who’s ready to learn and grow with you, I just might be your girl. I love the outdoors—my favorite hobby is running around the yard chasing squirrels and lizards, so therefore I really need a home with a secure fenced yard.  I'm also making great progress on my leash skills, my foster mom says I’ve come a long way in a very short amount of time. I don’t react to other dogs on walks, I’m too busy taking in all of the sights! I'm so close to being potty-trained and use a pee pad reliably, when needed. I get along wonderfully with other dogs and would be happiest in a home with a fur sibling to help me feel secure and keep me company. I also did great when I was introduced to a cat. I’m respectful of my foster dog sister, and her presence really helps when my people are away. I don’t need to be crated (I’m not a fan of closed crates), and I’m trustworthy when left alone. Sometimes I’ll let out a quiet, sad little howl when I miss you—but I’m getting better about that, especially if I have a dog friend around. I haven’t quite figured out what toys are for—I see other dogs playing with them, but I’m still learning how fun they can be! Right now, what makes me happiest is just being close to my person. I absolutely love sleeping in the bed with my human—I’ll sleep through the whole night snuggled up next to you. When meeting new people, I can be cautious, and I tend to shrink away from men. I’m still learning that the world is a safe place, and I need a patient, gentle home where I can build trust at my own pace. I warm up much more quickly to women, and once I do, I’ll show my love with sweet little kisses and quiet affection. I’m very smart, a great listener, and eager to continue learning. All I need is a calm, understanding family who won’t leave me alone too long and who will help me blossom into the confident, loving pup I’m meant to be. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow who wants nothing more than to be by your side, I’d love to meet you. Could you be the one to help me feel safe, loved, and finally home?  If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for Dixie, please complete and app and tell us more about your family.
