My story

Meet Trusty Jack: If you are searching for a loving and devoted companion who loves being with his people, then Jack will steal your heart away. Jack is a 2 year old red heeler / boxer mix and weighs 52 pounds. His sister Charli is also up for adoption. His sweet one eyebrow freckle face will captivate your attention as he locks eyes with you patiently waiting for cuddles. Jack was rescued when he was 3 months old along with his littermate. For the last two years, Jack has lived with his adoptive family with school age kids, his sibling, and another older, high energy, small dog. Jack is patient with kids and his energetic play can be rough at times but is easily directed to softer play with commands. Jack is an indoor dog who loves his rowdy outdoor play but also loves all the snuggle time on the couch next to his loved ones. Jack completed a 5-week e-collar dog camp training last year and is super smart. He is also very treat/food motivated and will easily pick up any new tricks. In addition to being e-collar trained, he is also house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and past the puppy chewing phase, although he might sneak a chance to chew on a new shoe if left out unattended. Jack is microchipped, neutered and up-to date on his vaccines. His microchip also monitors his body temperature which makes temp checks at vet visits a breeze. He is very healthy and strong. Jack is a very protective and loyal dog to his owners, and seems to be more abrasive with new comers in the house. He responds to positive training and e-collar cues quickly but might require slow introductions to new people. Jack is good with older children (elementary to middle school), older adults, and other dogs. We havenâ&#194&#128&#194&#153t had a chance to see Jackâ&#194&#128&#194&#153s interactions with small children, however, Jack gently interacts well with elderly grandparents but might require a few reminders to play less energetically around them. Jack loves his walks and outdoor zoomies. He would do best with a big yard, a companion who is home much of the time, and someone he can walk with and follow during the day. At night, he will wind down with his owners and will lay or sit as close to them as possible. He is happiest being around his people and enjoying lots of evening cuddles and belly rubs on the couch. Jack does get along with his sibling sister, however, the pair together commonly rile each other up, especially when company comes over. Jack would be more obedient and less mischievous without his littermate in either a single dog household or a household with calm older pets. However, if his new adopter continues to learn and help him work on his littermate syndrome, the sibling pair might be more friendly housemates, but would thrive best with a home that has a generous amount of land and lots of activity to keep him mentally and physically active. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * If you have a specific question about Jack, then please email newdigs@dallaspetsalive.org.
