My story

ORION - (black) 4 years 5 months old, 80 pounds, house trained, avoids other dogs except Artemis, nervous meeting new people, no experience with children Artemis (ADOPTED) and Orion are new residents at VBACAC, having been surrendered due to no fault of their own. They had both been with their family since puppy-hood and now nervous behind the bars in an unfamiliar environment.   It took a gentle touch and slow movement to get collars on both of them. It will take time for them to get used to a new family and new home. In playgroup, we started with Orion. He was super nervous when the other dogs, all gentle and easy-going, approached as good greeters to welcome him to the yard. He wanted nothing to do with them and showed his teeth. They all backed off and let him do his own thing. He also avoided us humans. He seemed better with me, the only female human out there and followed me a little. When we brought Artemis out, Orion opened up. He immediately seemed to forget about the other dogs and focused on Artemis. Once Artemis was inside the yard, Orion walked around and sniffed much more. He even allowed others to sniff him without baring his teeth. He did hang closer to Artemis much of the time. With Artemis at his side, Orion was clearly much more confident.  Artemis is huge, Great Pyrenees style. She is mostly white on her long thick fur with a long and strong fluffy white tail. She has some brown on her head and a great smile. Orion is smaller than Artemis but still a large dog. He has dark, almost brindle color fur with a white patch on his chest.  Both Artemis and Orion enjoy car rides and walks. They both can be trusted roaming free in a home. Artemis is known to guard her food bowl from other dogs but not humans. They both love playing with balls and soft toys.
