at is a 4.5 year old beauty, surrendered because her family feels they cannot meet her physical and mental needs now that there is an infant in the house. Cat is happiest with her people, doing whatever they are doing, including hiking, walking, playing in the hose, playing with bubbles, playing fetch with her soccer ball and more. That being said, she also has a few hobbies of her own. She loves to work for you, whether that’s obedience training or bite work on a bite pillow, she’s happiest when she has a job to do and a command to complete. Her food-motivation is second to none, but toys are great motivators, as well. Cat thrives on routine and structure and will let you know what comes next in the order of operations, especially if it includes a meal. Cat is housebroken and crate trained. She is not a fan of moving bikes & motorcycles. She’s also nervous about meeting new people, especially men. It takes time and a gentle hand to gain her trust. Hotdogs help, too. Cat has been known to guard the things most precious to her. These include her water bowl while she’s drinking (resource guarded from other dogs, we’re not sure about people) and her soccer ball (from someone she was not super familiar with). Cat does well around other dogs that she knows. Cat has also lived with a cat and is enthusiastic with her curiosity and play bows. Overall, Cat is a pretty healthy dog. She has been diagnosed with Von Willebrand Disease so surgeries may be a bit more complicated (Cat is spayed and had her stomach stapled to avoid bloat), but other than that she’s pretty unaffected. She’s also had the tiniest of heart murmurs come up on vet exams, but they were so minor that the vet actually had to bring in another vet to confirm and sometimes they go completely undetected. Cat is a GREAT dog and has a lot of love to give. with her best years ahead of her. She would do best in an active family with older children or teenagers, preferably with dog experience, who can give her the mental & physical exercise she needs, as well as protecting her boundaries when it comes to new people. Cat is in the Colorado Springs area. A $300 adoption fee applies. Please complete an application at www.dobermanrescuenm.org.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Cat, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
