My story

Dog Name: Gertha Breed: Mixed Sex: Female Age: Somewhere between 11 and 10,000 Weight: 10lbs Medical Needs: Monthly Librela shots for her arthritis. Gertha also has alopecia, as well as chronic dry eye, which can be managed with OTC eye gel to help her eyes stay moist. The vet found multiple mammary tumors during her exam, but due to her age and the number of them, she is not a candidate for surgery. Gertha is also not spayed, and the vet recommends she stay that way due to her age and health issues. Housebroken: Yes, when kept on a schedule Crate trained: Yes Good in the car: Yes, she enjoys being a lap rider Good on a leash: Yes Energy level: Low Need a fenced in yard: No Dog Friendly: Yes, though she needs a minute to warm up to dogs that are larger than her. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, you'll be enough for her. Cat Friendly? Yes Kid Friendly: Untested, but she's such a sweetheart that I can't see an issue If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Kids old enough to understand they need to be mindful of her size Traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Gertha was surrendered to the shelter after her owner passed away. When she first came to her foster home, she was just… there. She had no interest in much of anything but curling up in her bed and staring at nothing. She didn't care about food, attention, or being outside. Fast-forward a few weeks, and now this sweet little grandmother has rekindled her love of life. She's quick to follow her foster dad wherever he goes, her tail wagging and her face tilted up in hope that she'll be scooped into his arms and carried like the regal queen she believes herself to be - and you won't hear us telling her any different. While Gertha is definitely in her richer golden years of life, she still has plenty of love to give to whoever has a spare hand to pet her - or some yummy snacks to share. So long as you understand her medical needs and are willing to make sure her remaining years are full of comfort and care, Gertha will repay you with all of the love and warm laps you could ever want. Foster’s Location: Frederica, DE Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app) ##2361800##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Gertha, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
