My story

Winston Meet Winston, aka Boots! Winston came to 405 as a surrender. He was in desperate need of a soft place to land. He has already shown so much progress since the first night he joined the squad! And we can’t wait to see him continue to flourish and grow!  Stats:: Approx 3 yo and 15 lbs : Leash trained: Kennel trained: Mostly housebroken* (see below): Coexists well with other dogs, but has not been seen to be playful with the pack : Has not been tested with cats, but would not likely recommend. : Has not been tested with children, but would not recommend children under 13yo Observations while in foster:: Has walked well on a leash, alone or in a pair. Has seen bunnies, squirrels, and birds and not been very interested. Has seen other dogs and has either ignored them or growled a little but overall was found to be easily redirectable. : Needs slow introductions with resident dogs. Initially we introduced him to the squad. Let him sniff a bit. And then kenneled him in a room by himself to have a nap and decompress. Since then, he has coexisted with the resident dogs fairly easily. He also has a small pen in the dining room with his kennel inside of it for space to observe the pack while having his own bubble. : Rides well in the car both in and out of the crate. Spent over an hour in a crate inside a very busy and loud animal clinic and he curled up and slept the entire time. : Marking - Winston has marked a couple of times while in the foster home. This may be complicated by the fact that two of the resident dogs have to use puppy pads. However, it is in his best interest to alert a potential family about this issue as he may need further training. That being said, he does not mark while in his pen or kennel. Also he wears a belly band when allowed to roam the house and has not attempted to mark with the belly band on. He has been allowed on furniture, etc without issue and without trying to take off the band.  Recommendations:: A low traffic home : I don’t think he needs to be a sole dog, but other resident dogs should have a calm demeanor : No cats: Children 13+ : Agreeable to further training Winston is a sweet boy who deserves his chance in the right home. While we don’t know his past, it is clear he has not known much kindness in his life. He has blossomed in such a short amount of time with us, that I’m confident with the right match he will make a fantastic addition to your family! ##2397183##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Winston, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
