My story

Olive is a curious girl who is still building confidence in her new surroundings. She walks well on leash and shows interest in her handler, but she can be nervous—panting, darting her eyes, and sometimes showing signs of anxiety. Despite her nerves, Olive loves affection and will gladly accept gentle pets and even share some kisses. She enjoys full-body rubs and isn’t shy about settling into your lap when she feels safe. Olive tends to overthink affection, sometimes pulling away as if unsure she deserves the attention, which means she’ll do best with a calm, patient adopter who can help her feel secure. While she shows only brief interest in toys or treats, she is handler-oriented and enjoys short play sessions. Olive would thrive in a quiet, steady home where she can gain confidence and build trust at her own pace. With patience, love, and consistency, Olive has the potential to blossom into your new best friend. Come meet Olive at ACCT Philly any day between 10 am and 6 pm VIDEOS Olive Playgroup assessment: https://youtube.com/shorts/3SdaOeUPa5A?feature=share Olive gets pets: https://youtube.com/shorts/wnprig4v9KU?si=Q3yc95J1m9E4ELJs BEHAVIOR 05/16/2025 volunteer notes: I had no issues retrieving or returning olive to kennel. She walks well on leash! She was non reactive towards other vocal dogs. Olive still seems unsure, panting and darting her eyes around.she was not interested in accepting treats. She did accept some pets and give some kisses! 05/15/2025 staff notes, playgroup: Curious, social, interested, handler oriented 05/15/2025 staff notesL Did a brief dog meet with April and Olive. April was more forward, approaching Olive head-on to sniff her face with flagging tail and perked ears. Olive reciprocated with some sniffs, but was more timid than April and shied away from some of her advances, eventually hiding behind her handler's legs. Both dogs were friendly and social but Olive was just a little more reserved/less outgoing than April. 05/15/2025 staff notes: i took Olive out again for some activity time/ walk. she was very good for me, gave me a wagging tail at the front and scared eyes. she was easy to leash and came right out. she ran around in the yard and walked very nicely on leash next to me. we took some photos, cuddled and walked very nicely back. 05/15/2025 staff notes: I went to visit Olive in her kennel today. She immediately began low growling at me with very wide eyes. When I put my hand on the cage bars she started to bark-but it was a low alert type of bark-not an ongoing hard bark. She appears very scared & unsure of her surroundings. She was panting & pacing & every once in a while would look at me & growl. I stayed with her for several minutes speaking to her softly & telling her she was a good girl but she never changed her demeanor unfortunately. 05/15/2025 staff notes: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Olive was at the front with wide nervous eyes and a tense body. She allowed me to easily leash her and kept herself near the door. Once secured she came right out. Sometimes can be grumpy and will be reactive – growling, baring teeth, and hard barking LEASH SKILLS: Pulls moderately HANDLING : In the room, Olive was very nervous and anxious, panting and pacing around. I gave her lots of time and space and let her come over to me. She likes full body rubs and will drop herself into your lap. She tends to overthink it and then gets nervous and walks away like she shouldn't be cuddled. This conflicted girl needs some confidence and some more time with people who understand her needs. She is a nervous girl that wants affection and attention. She showed minimal interest in treats, took them gently and dropped them. She allowed all handling from me and gave me no further issues, we just spent some time getting to know each other. PLAY: Engages in play –short lived TOYS: Did not attempt 05/15/2025 staff notes: took Olive out for PG. she was not growling at me in the kennel but has also been on walks with me many times. i opened the kennel door and she ran towards the back but came back when i spoke to her in a baby voice. she had wide scared eyes and pinned back ears. i was able to easily leash her and she came right out without issues. she was anxious and exit searching as we walked throughout the kennels but once we were outside she began playing with me, jumping up with mid level wags and even play bowing when i tried clipping a PG leash onto her. she gave me no issues bringing her back and we played in the yard alone for some time. once we were back in the kennels she got really nervous and unsure again. i placed her back in her kennel and stood there to see if her kennel reactivity would continue but it did not. she paced around the kennel anxiously and i stepped away. 05/13/2025 staff notes: i was called to bring Olive to SX. She took me awhile to get her leashed up as she was reactive to me. hard barking, growling, half lunging and baring teeth. she kept putting her back towards me when i got close to securing her and then would quickly whip around. once i got her secured she was very tense and would growl at people passing by. she got close to a nurse as we walked past and started growling as i quickly pulled her closer to me. in SX she was very anxious and tense, moving around in circles with a tense body language. she did not want the vet to get close to her examine her or even look closer at her chest and belly. the vet felt unsafe so i put her back. 05/13/2025 staff notes: baring teeth, growling, hard barking an lunging towards the kennel door ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in.
