My story

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 03/26/2025 Reason for being in rescue: Breeder release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Lacy is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On May 7, 2025 Lacy had a significant dental with extractions. Our veterinarian has noted that Lacy has moderate cardiomegaly. She is not currently on medicine. This will need ongoing monitoring with your veterinarian. Lacy has dry eye. She has daily Cyclosporine drops that go into both eyes.  At 1800petmeds, you can purchase (and set up an autoship) for these drops. The cost is roughly $2 per day. Cyclosporine 1% Ophthalmic Solution 15ml | 1800PetMeds. We also recommend that you use over the counter Optixcare (available from Amazon) for dogs eye lube. It's a tremendous help to dogs with dry eye.  It won't replace the cyclosporine, but it seems to help the medication work better.   Weight: 10.50 lbs Height: 12 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $199 Fence needed? No, but a fenced in yard is a great safety feature for any dog. What kind of home would be best for me? Little Lacy is a mature Shih Tzu with a gentle soul and a heart full of love. Lacy thrives in a calm, loving environment where her people are home most—or ideally all—of the day. She would do well with a single adopter, a couple, or a family. However, if joining a home with children, they should be at least 10 years old, as young kids can be a bit overwhelming for her. Lacy’s perfect match might be a retiree or retired couple who want a loving, laid-back dog to spend their days with. Due to her small size, Lacy is a great fit for any living situation, whether it’s an apartment or a house. She’s strictly an indoor dog and doesn’t require a fenced yard, though she would enjoy safe outdoor exploration if one is available. Lacy does well with other small dogs and even dog-friendly cats. She would be happy to have a canine companion, but she’s also perfectly content being the center of your universe. Lacy doesn’t mind being the only dog as she is older and more mature and over all that silly play stuff! She must’ve been a mama before as she corrects everybody and makes everyone walk the line!  What is my personality like? Lacy is a loving girl that does well with other small dogs and even dog-friendly cats. Surrendered by her breeders, Lacy is still learning what live as beloved companion really means. Lacy is still adjusting to home life, so consistent potty breaks are essential—especially first thing in the morning and right before bedtime. With positive reinforcement and patience, she’ll settle into a routine quickly and learn to do her business outside. She walks on a leash but would benefit from refresher training. Basic commands like “come,” “sit,” “down,” and “stay” are still a work in progress. Lacy responds wonderfully to treats and loving praise, so training can also be a great bonding experience for you both. Lacy is mellow, affectionate, and easygoing. She’ll gladly nap in her own bed, beside you on the couch, or—her favorite spot—snuggled up in your lap. She also enjoys outings and would love to accompany you to pet-friendly shops, outdoor cafés, or on a drive around town. Bonus points if there's a pup cup involved! Lacy's caregivers described her as a certified lap baby.  Lacy's caregivers describe her as a classically stubborn Shih Tzu queen who thinks potty training doesn’t apply to her. She is having a hard time with potty training and likely will continue throughout her life due to her age. She was kept INSIDE so she is accustomed to using the bathroom indoors which is a hard habit to break.  Lacy is ready to start the next chapter of her life with a family who will shower her with love, patience, and gentle care. If you can write the happily ever after to Lacy’s story, she’s waiting to meet you with open paws and a full heart. How do I act when I first meet new people? Lacy is mellow, affectionate, and easygoing. She’s not overly excitable when meeting new people but loves to be petted and snuggled. Other tips and tidbits: Based on her overall health and condition, our veterinarian has aged Lacy at 10 years old. We celebrate her birthday 02/14/2015. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule is a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. May 28, 2025, 11:26 am
