My story

Bart is a 4-year-old pit bull mix who is looking for a home where he can enjoy life and all of it's pleasantries. Bart is a a big happy boy who is pretty chill. He is very sweet and just wants to please. He is a great companion, he just wants to hang out, get some scratches and give some licks. He is happy to spend hours laying in the grass enjoying the sun or looking out the window watching the world go by. Bart is house and crate trained and he will let you know when he needs to go out. He can be a bit of a velcro dog at night and insists on keeping one foot on you when you sleep. However he also understands personal boundaries and will get down when told and sleep in his own bed. Bart has a playful, sometimes mouthy personality, so we recommend a home with kids 12 and up who can help keep interactions positive and respectful. He seems to enjoy the company of other dogs, but he’s not a fan of rude or overly pushy playmates. He previously lived with a dog who didn’t respect his boundaries, so any potential dog friends should meet him first to make sure they’re a good fit. Bart will thrive with an active family who can give him plenty of exercise and attention. He does well on walks, and gets really excited when squirrels make an appearance so brace yourrself. Ready to Adopt? You have two options: #1- VISIT IN PERSON Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You’ll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter. (Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.) #2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD** If you’re ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you’d like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours. **Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events. -------------------------------------------- All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations - heartworm test -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us.
