My story

Gentle, Sweet, and Playful Black Beans is a sweet, gentle senior kitty - who loves for you to hold him like a baby! He can cuddle with you for hours and will fall asleep in your lap. Give him some head kisses and he’ll give you some “hair biscuits” - which describes the perfect day for Black Beans! (The perfect night is snuggling with you at bedtime.) He is typically very calm, and is happy to sit near you and chill out while you work or read. He will, however, drop everything to chase a string around! As an older gentleman with arthritis in his knees and hips, and probably his back, too, his mobility is limited. He doesn’t jump high or move fast, but he will do his best to pounce at a moving toy! Because in his heart, Black Beans believes he is still a kitten! He is on meds for arthritis and is great about taking them, especially since most of them are inserted into his favorite food, Fancy Feast Cheddar! Take a moment right now and take a look at his photos, especially his black toe beans! He actually has a singular pink toe bean on three of his paws, and you will love his little two-tone paws. He also has a brilliant black and white tuxedo coat and some impressively-long whiskers. He is so soft! Which matches his gentle and calm personality. The best home for Black Beans is quieter and low-traffic, with some carpet that makes it easier for him to walk around. Since he doesn’t really jump and yet has a curious nature, having things at floor level for him to explore would make him happy! His people should keep him on his meds and be able to cuddle, snuggle, and love on this older lap cat, and also interact with him when he gets his playful on! He would do best with adults, young adults, and older, respectful kids. His food dish, bed, and litter box are best if kept in close-ish proximity so he doesn’t have to go too far for any of them. Pro Tip: he doesn’t mind if you carry him around to where he needs (or wants!) to be! Black Beans is a sweet and kind cat, full of love and good nature. He may walk slowly, but he will zoom into your heart! Contact us today to meet him! Black Beans has tested positive for Feline Leukemia. FeLV is not a type of cancer. It's a virus that causes a weaker immune system and often a shorter life-span. For the most part, 'FeLVies' are just like any other cat. APA! provides FeLV-related treatment and support post-adoption. He can only live with other FeLV+ cats, but dogs and other animals are just fine! Any questions? We'd love to talk with you about FeLV care. All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet Black Beans, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Black Beans, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
