My story

Meet Kitty! This spunky lady can be a little timid when first meeting strangers, but is very loving once she is comfortable! We are still learning about her personality, but she is very brave! Kitty came to THS after her owner could no longer care for her.Upon arrival, a routine blood test showed a positive result for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). FIV is a virus that causes a weakening of the cat`s immune system. There is no cure or treatment for FIV. FIV+ cats can live a normal life, both in quality and duration, but routine preventative care will be important since they are immune-compromised. FIV can be transmitted to other cats at birth, or through deep bites/scratches during fighting. It is not contagious to people or dogs. Since FIV can be transmitted to other cats, any positive cats should be very carefully and gradually introduced to any households with FIV negative cats to minimize the risk of transmission, or live either as the only cat or with other FIV+ cats.
