My story

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   going to Barbara ann RankinDate into Rescue: Cato originally arrived in rescue in May of 2012. Cato's breeder was going out of business and wanted him to find a happy, forever home. Cato is a sweet and happy boy that will make a wonderful companion. Cato was debarked when he came to us. In April 2025, Cato returned to rescue when life changed for his owner and he could no longer care for him. Reason for being in rescue: Surrendered by owner Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Cato is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. In April 2024 he had a dental upon return to rescue. At 16+ years old, Cato is a senior boy. He has bilateral mature cataracts that impair his vision. His hearing is limited. He wants you to know he still has LOTS of love to share. Weight: 15 lbs Height: 12 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $1 - I am priceless Fence needed? No, Cato is an indoor dog. What kind of home would be best for me? Meet Cato, a gentle soul seeking a peaceful retirement home. Cato is a sweet senior who recently returned to us after nearly 13 loving years with his adopter. Sadly, his person passed away, and now Cato is back at the farm, looking for a quiet, comforting place to spend his Golden Years. Cato is a mellow senior who spends much of his time snoozing or wandering quietly around. He thrives in a calm, low-stress environment and would not do well in a home with children of any age. Cato would be happiest with someone who is home most or all of the day—perhaps a retired individual or couple who can offer companionship and gentle care. However, a single person that will spend the day with him would make Cato happy as well. Because of his age, Cato does need to go outside frequently for potty breaks—something all senior dog caregivers should be prepared for. If you have the heart and home to offer Cato the love he deserves, he will repay you with a quiet companionship and an unspoken gratitude that will touch your soul. What is my personality like? Cato is a mellow senior who spends much of his time snoozing or wandering quietly around. He needs to eat three times a day because he is underweight. He doesn’t pay much attention to other dogs and could coexist peacefully with calm cats who won’t bother him. How do I act when I first meet new people? He may not show his emotions openly when meeting new people, but he enjoys gentle affection and being petted. Give him time, and you’ll see a quiet, deeply grateful love shine through.  Cato doesn’t ask for much—just the essentials: a cozy dog bed (or better yet, a warm lap), three meals a day (he’s still gaining weight after being underweight), and, most importantly, a kind and patient human to love him.  This lovely old guy has experienced the joy and comfort of a real home, and it’s all he wants again. Shelter life, with its noise and commotion, is overwhelming for him. He longs for the peace and familiarity of home life with someone who will cherish him in his final chapter. Cato is waiting. Will you be the one to bring him home! Other tips and tidbits: Cato's birthday is 06/01/2008. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. May 19, 2025, 3:08 pm
