My story

Dog Name: Marianne Age: ~8-9 months Gender: Spayed Female Breed: Shepard Mix Good with dogs? She LOVES other dogs! She would thrive with another dog sibling or two.  Good with cats? She was exposed to cats in a foster home in New Mexico and did well. Good with kids? We’d recommend her in a house with older, dog savvy kids. She is great with our toddler, but we have taught our toddler to allow Marianne to come up to her. Marianne wants to be in the room as we’re reading goodnight stories, and gets excited when our toddler gets home from daycare. But, since she can be on the more fearful and timid side, we recommend she’s only placed with older, dog-savvy kiddos who can be patient with her.  What is their rescue story? Marianne, her siblings, and her Mom were all rescued from a difficult backyard breeding situation in New Mexico. The Mom and her siblings have all gone on to find wonderful forever homes in New Mexico and Colorado. Now Marianne needs her chance! :) Marianne was in a foster home in New Mexico before coming to Washington where she bonded with the foster mother and was exposed to children and cats.  Temperament/Personality: Marianne is SO loving but obviously had some trauma in her early days. She can be fearful with men and is continuing to gain confidence in her daily life. Her potential adopter will need to realize she might not come up to get pets at first, but if they follow the 3 day, 3 week, 3 month rule she has the potential to become an amazing dog. The right person or family will need to be okay giving her the space to get settled and build trust in a new environment. We’ve done that in her current foster home and she has blossomed into a loving, incredible dog with the sweetest energy. Her perfect family will give her the space she needs at first, respect her boundaries, and let her build trust. Marianne is a joy in her current foster house, wanting to be around the family, our guests, and follows me (the mom) from room to room like a shadow. She went from being too scared to come out of a crate, to sleeping in our bed and becoming a wonderful member of the family. My husband has given her the space to realize men are okay, and Marianne is now accepting pets, meals, and is realizing he’s okay. Marianne has gone from a dog too scared to leave her crate, to a sunbathing, mischievous (in a good way) puppy with a ton of potential. We’re also working with Zoom Room Tacoma in regular training sessions to make sure Marianne has every support to continue to blossom.  Has experience on a leash? Yes! We’ve been working with Marianne on pack and individual walks. She can have some anxiety first putting a harness on, but we recently changed to a step in harness which has worked SO much better. Once she’s out the door, she’s a great walking companion., Potty trained? Yes! Crate trained? Yes! She stays in a crate when both her foster parents go to work. She also originally slept in her crate at night, but recently graduated to sleeping in the bed with her foster family.  Where does the dog stay when it is home alone? In her crate, with a chew toy or two.  Where does the dog sleep? In her foster family’s bed :) She would also be fine sleeping in a crate if that’s her forever family’s preference.  Temperament/Personality: Marianne is learning the world is an okay place and is timid and fearful at first. It’s important to give her the respect and space to come to you and slowly build trust. But once she does, she is an AMAZING loyal shadow.  What does the dog's ideal home look like? Marianne is more timid and fearful around men, but is making strides (she went from absolutely terrified to hanging on the couch, taking treats, and accepting pets from her foster dad). She’d do best in a house with a woman or women, or with a man who would be okay taking it super slow to build her trust.  What are the dog’s strengths? Marianne is SUCH a sweetheart and has an incredibly sweet, playful spirit to her. She recently learned tennis balls are pretty fun. Watching her discover the world, and all the good it can offer, is a joy. She’s currently in the backyard, with the zoomies, playing with our resident dog. She is absolutely fabulous with other dogs and is great with our rambunctious younger dog, who’s a playing machine, and our crankier senior dog, who prefers a mellower vibe.  What is the dog still working on? Marianne is still building her confidence and trust, especially with men. Her forever family will need to give her the space to really settle in to let a bond and relationship develop. But we think the right family will be paid off in spades if they give her the chance. As soon as you’re in her circle, you are IN her circle.  If your foster dog were on a dating site, what would their profile say? Sometimes misunderstood as being aloof, I just want to love.  Squeaky/Bouncy/Chewy, what do they look for in a toy? All of the above! Marianne loves a good dog toy! Complete this sentence “My foster wishes they had a friend with whom they could share…” the rest of her life :)  Apply at: www.northwestwagrescue.org $500 Adoption fee 20 day trial option available www.northwestwagrescue.org ##2397650##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Marianne, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
