My story

Margarito is a beautiful, conflicted pup who's doing his best to navigate a world that currently feels a little overwhelming. He’s nervous in new situations and can be vocal when unsure, but behind those big barks is a dog who’s just trying to figure out how to trust again. Once leashed, Margarito walks well and shows that he knows sit, paw, and down—and he’s got a great talent for catching treats mid-air! He allows handling, though he can be sensitive around his back end and may need slow introductions to build comfort. In the presence of new people, he can be unsure, sometimes reacting with barking or retreating, but given time and patience, he’s shown a willingness to connect. Margarito is looking for a calm, experienced home where he can decompress at his own pace, and where his space and signals will be respected. He’s not ready to play just yet—but with the right person, there’s hope for a brighter, more confident future. Come meet Margarito at ACCT Philly any day of the week between 10 am and 6 pm BEHAVIOR: 05/21/2025 staff notes: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Margarito was alert barking on the backside of his kennel for cleaning. He had a high slow wagging tail and neutral eyes. He was easy to leash and came right out once secured. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls moderately HANDLING : In the room, Margarito was very finicky and vocal, he would switch between hard barking and backing up away from me to coming forward and alert barking with a mid level wagging tail. He was conflicted being in a small space and seemed unsure how to react to the situation. He allowed me to touch all over him but was more sensitive to his back side, whipping around quickly and nipping at me. When another staff member came in, he backed into me and started hard baring at her, but once she called for him he came forward with mid level wags. He seems very conflicted with himself and not sure what to do. He took treats gently from me and knew sit, paw and down; he could also catch very well. PLAY: No interest TOYS: No interest 05/21/2025 medical staff notes: we was able to muzzle pt and give VX without much restraint , pt was still pacing back and forth with some hard barks but did not show any other bad behavior . 05/20/2025 staff notes, intake: Dog is friendly, walked well on leash, no chip.
