My story

Meet Opi—living proof that you can be both devastatingly handsome and completely clueless at the same time. He’s basically a walking heartthrob wrapped in a thick layer of dork. With the swagger of a golden retriever who just discovered his own reflection and the sweet soul of a Disney sidekick, Opi is the perfect mix of handsome and hilariously clueless. In short: Opi is a certified Good Boy™ with just the right amount of lovable goof to keep life interesting. Opi is a 2-year-old, 90lb Great Pyrenees/Collie mix with the charm of a supermodel and the brainpower of a golden retriever in a wind tunnel. Opi found his way to us after his family realized they just didn’t have the time he deserved—he was spending up to 10 hours a day in a kennel, with very little interaction. Wanting better for him, they made the difficult decision to surrender him so he could find a home where he’d get the attention, affection, and daily adventures a dog like him truly thrives on. Opi is that rare gem of a dog who actually enjoys other dogs without trying to stage a coup or initiate a WWE match in the backyard. He plays well, minds his manners, and seems to genuinely enjoy the company of his fellow four-leggers—like a laid-back party guest who brings his own toys and doesn’t trash the place. As for cats? Opi has taken the enlightened path of not eating them. He lives peacefully with his feline roommates and doesn’t treat them like tiny, judgmental prey animals—which honestly puts him ahead of half the dogs on the internet. When it comes to kids, he’s more of a “cool uncle” vibe. He’s good with the older crowd—kids 10 and up who understand personal space and won’t try to ride him like a pony. With new people, Opi’s not exactly rolling out the red carpet on first meeting. He’s more of a “wait and see” kind of guy—he’ll give you the once-over, maybe pretend you don’t exist for a minute, and then, once he decides you’re not a threat or a door-to-door salesman, he’ll warm up and be your best friend....*read* you will now have a lap dog for life...and yes...there is a such thing as a 90lb lapdog and Opi will prove it ;) Opi’s energy level falls somewhere between a mildly curious sloth and a retired golden retriever who’s just here for the snacks. He’s a solid 4 out of 10—enough pep to keep up with the action, but not so much that he’s scaling the walls in search of stimulation. Basically, he’s that friend who RSVPs to the hike and then immediately regrets it halfway through. When it comes to car rides, Opi is more “stoic philosopher in the backseat” than “spring break road trip rager.” He’s had exactly one car ride so far (to the vet, no less), and he spent it lying down. No backseat driving, no drama—just deep thoughts and quiet judgment. As for leash walking, he’s... fine. He walks okay. He’s not out there winning medals or setting speed records, but he’s also not pancaking on the sidewalk or launching into orbit like a sled dog on espresso. He’s your middle-of-the-pack contender who shows up, puts in moderate effort, and then wonders when snacks are happening. Adventure-wise, Opi is still figuring out whether he’s an explorer or a professional throw pillow. Once he bonds with his people, we think he’ll be into outings and family adventures—but for now, he’s leaning more “let’s vibe on the couch and judge squirrels from the window.” He’s the kind of dog who could do long walks and hikes—if properly motivated, ideally by snacks or praise or the promise of cuddles. He’s not offended by exercise, but he’s also not forming a walking club anytime soon. Temperament? Opi is your classic lovable oaf with a sprinkle of social awkwardness. He’s a little reserved at first—like a guy at a party who stands by the chips until someone talks to him—and then boom: full-blown lap dog who thinks he’s the size of a teacup. He’s a soft-hearted goober who means well, even if his timing is sometimes… clumsy. Favorite activities include playing with the younger dogs (but in a “fun uncle” kind of way, not the camp counselor kind), chewing on toys like it’s his job, and flopping onto the couch to pretend he’s not slowly inching his way onto your lap. He’s affectionate, silly, and has fully embraced the art of lounging. Could he live in an apartment? Technically yes, but only with a family that understands he’s not an area rug. He’ll need daily walks, outings, and a decent amount of activity to keep that gentle brain ticking. Bonus points if you enjoy being stared at lovingly by 90lbs of fluff while you try to eat dinner. Opi is potty trained—because even lovable doofuses can have refined bathroom manners. He's mastered the art of going outside like a proper gentleman, so your rugs can breathe a sigh of relief. Opi spent way too much time in a kennel in his previous life, so we’re giving him a hard pass on the crate experience for now. In his foster home, he’s living that crate-free lifestyle and honestly? Thriving. After all, once you’ve been over-kenneled, the idea of willingly going back in is about as appealing as volunteering for jury duty. Opi free roams the house like a seasoned pro. No redecorating, no dramatic tantrums—just naps, light judging from the couch, and maybe a little strategic sunbeam chasing. Opi isn’t exactly running for town crier—he’s more the “speak only when spoken to” type. So far, he’s been pretty quiet, which is either a sign of his refined, introspective nature… or he’s just waiting for the right dramatic moment to make his vocal debut. Ready to add 90lbs of love, fluff, and professional-level lounging to your life? Opi is accepting applications for his forever couch—ahem, home—and promises to repay you in cuddles, quiet companionship, and the occasional dramatic lean. Fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can pass it along to his foster family and start planning your trip to Kiowa, OK. Your lap may never be empty again.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Opi, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
