Location: Sleepy Eye, MN Sebastian is roughly 6 months old now, mostly potty trained (working really hard!), kennel trained using "kennel up" command with sometimes a gentle nudge, eats with a slow feeder, and walks pretty well on the leash but still will get himself tangled with the resident dog sometimes. Read on for more info! Loves: 💚 People.. ALL people, and seems very gentle with small children during adoption events 💚 Toys - all kinds! 💚 Food! Very food motivated. Still Learning: 💙 How to interact with other dogs in a highly overstimulating environment 💙 Obedience Training. Still jumps up. 💙 Very energetic! Sebastian has high energy and can sometimes become annoying to another dog. He is still very much a puppy learning his boundaries. 💙 He is able to jump short gates. 💙 While he gets along with the fosters resident dog, he would truly love to be an only dog! He needs proper training on how to meet other dogs while on-leash or in a stimulating environment. The foster doesn't have the ability to do this with another dog since he already gets along with the resident dog. Sebastian has been around children, cats, and other dogs. When around children, he loves to give kisses, lick hands, lay on their laps, and playfully nibble/mouth (only have noticed mouthing on older children 11+). He would love to have little humans to run around with. When given the opportunity to be around cats who haven't ran from him, he will not chase. He may if a cat runs, but haven't witnessed this. If there is a gate between them, and the cat hisses at him or bats, he normally does nothing but may give a good bark to test the cat. Around other dogs in a setting such as a pet store or even at home with barriers such as a leash and gate in between them at first, Sebastian becomes very stressed and can seem aggressive. This is not an accurate representation of the kind of dog he really is in the home. To his foster, it seems like he may be trying to protect his humans/territory. When barriers were removed from the fosters resident dog in the home (accidentally - he was able to nose open our pocket door, the stinker) they met organically and were able to smell each other and have been fine since. He does tend to do better with dogs who will not be aggressive to him or have an adverse reaction to his barking or lunging. Again, he's very new to being in a safe space and can perceive other strange dogs to be threats. He needs patience and time to learn other dogs can be fun friends. We follow the rule of 3's - 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, 3 months to start to feel at home so please keep this in mind! 😊 While at home, Sebastian loves being around his people, whether that's laying by your feet while you're cooking, snoozing next to you on the couch, or chewing on a fun toy, he just wants to be where you are. So if you're looking for a sweet velcro dog, he's your guy! --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, heartworm test (dogs), FIV/FeLV test (cats), dewormed, and microchip implant (including registration). Rescue Network is strictly foster based which means all adoptable animals are in a home and there cannot be a meet until an application is submitted and approved. We have no way of knowing the breeds in the animals. All breeds listed are best guess.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sebastian, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
