My story

Meet Lucy Black, a 9-year-old black cat with a soft voice, strong opinions, and a love for affection—on her terms. She was a little nervous at first and spent her early days tucked away in her bed, but with time and patience, her confidence has started to shine through. Lucy now greets visitors with sweet little chirps and will often come up to sniff your hand before gently bumping into it to ask for pets. She enjoys gentle head scritches but can get overstimulated if pet too far down her back. She’s front paw declawed, so when she’s had enough, she uses her teeth to communicate—usually in the form of a love bite. For that reason, she’d do best with an adopter who understands feline body language and can spot when her tail starts to flick or her ears flatten. She has coexisted with another cat before and might be able to do so again with a slow, respectful introduction. While she has no known history with dogs, she could potentially live with a calm, older child who’s able to respect her boundaries. A child meet-and-greet is recommended to make sure it’s the right fit. Lucy Black is a sweet and snuggly girl once she feels safe, and she’s ready to find a home that appreciates her for the complex, affectionate queen she is.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lucy Black, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
