Meet Bambi! 🦌 At 4 years old, she’s seen a lot in her young life traveling the world. Enough to give her a healthy fear of… well everything pretty much 😔 She’s a Korean Village Dog according to her DNA test, probably originally a semi-feral stray traumatized by being plucked off the streets and put in a shelter first in Korea, and then being flown to NJ by a now defunct rescue. This scared little girl was adopted out as a nice little family pet without warnings of how fearful she was and how hard the adjustment would be. Though she came a long way and once she’s comfortable her little tail is always wagging and she dances and follows you around the house, but will always get more nervous in new situations and need to acclimate on her terms. She has a lot of really good qualities- she is a quiet demure dog, clean and keeps to herself but will come over for cuddles on the couch. She walks well on a leash, was housebroken in her previous home, is smart and a thinker. And of course those big doe eyes and adorable foxy little face don’t hurt. She’s not an aggressive dog, just complete fear and panic. She screams and pees on herself in pure terror being picked up, screams louder and pees more having her feet touched, and nail trims are not possible without some heavy duty sleepy meds (but lots of walks on pavement will wear them down enough that hopefully she will continue not to need them). She will come over wagging her tail and asking for attention and loves to cuddle on the couch and on your lap, but she has to be allowed to approach you and tries to dart if people go toward her. Her personality is very cat-like and similar to a tinier Shiba Inu and she needs a quiet patient home that understands her and will continue to help her navigate this terrifying world. She’s scared and avoidant of other dogs at this point so would probably be best as an only pet though she might be able to learn to get along with a calm disinterested dog once she realizes they aren’t threat. If you would like to really make a difference in the life of a shy but sweet little dog and are willing to open your home to our dear little deer Bambi, email njwoof@cs.com to meet her in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bambi, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
