My story

Clarice - 1 year, 8lbs, Yorkie Mix, Spayed  Want to adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parent Says: "Fostering Clarice has been a great experience. She's incredibly sweet and wants nothing more than to get belly rubs from her owner. When she first arrived, she was very timid and frozen up, but with each day I'm seeing more and more of her personality. She can now do walks without carrying her at all, which is a big step up from where she started. She's very well potty trained and doesn't have separation anxiety. She will make a loving, easy pet for her next owner!" Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle bug levelHigh - she absolutely loves getting belly rubs. That said, she's fine spending lots of time on her own. She does not sleep in my bed, for example. Potty trainedYes - she's very good about not peeing or pooping inside. She especially prefers to pee/poop on dirt, but is fine with a sidewalk as well. Comfy with strangersMore of a wallflower - she's still somewhat frozen up and timid, so when in public she can be very cautious. But in a private setting, meeting someone for the first time, she quickly comes out of her shell to get some of those precious belly rubs. Comfortable with children?Good with 12 and up - she hasn't interacted with children, but I imagine she would warm up to them, as long as they're not overly boisterous to her Social with other dogs?Probably yes - she hasn't had the chance to interact with any dogs, but she seems friendly to them as they go by on the street Respectful of other animalsUnclear - she hasn't interacted with any other animals. But it wouldn't surprise me if she's friendly towards all other pets, like cats Mouthy behaviorLow - she chews very little on things, except for her himalayan dog chew which she loves Leash mannersGetting the hang of it - she's fairly respectful of the leash, except when she's totally freaked out in public, where she freezes. But she's getting freaked out way less now. Okay in the citySort of - when she started, she was absolutely terrified and wouldn't take a single step outside. I had to carry her for every walk. But now, just a week later, she's able to do a whole walk on her own. So, she's made a lot of progress and I think it'll continue to improve. Jumping on people to say hiLow - she would rather roll over and entice them to give her a belly rub Separation anxietyLow - she's never had any problems with being left alone, even for 9 hours while I go to work Crate trainingNot at all - she may be fine in a crate, but I didn't have any need to put her in one so I didn't Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Puerto Rico or Southern California. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
