Lulu - 1 year, 11lbs, Terrier Mix, Spayed Want to adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Our Team Says: "Lulu would do better in calm area of the city or the burbs. She isn't a huge fan of the busy city." Thier Foster Parent Says: "Lulu is a total lovebug and deeply attached to her people. She is happiest curled up against your leg or watching you from across the room, tail wagging the moment you look her way. She has a gentle, easygoing nature and stays relaxed and tolerant whenever you need to handle her. While she’s calm and cuddly most of the time, she has a goofy side and will happily entertain herself with a toy or play fetch. It’s clear she had some basic training in a past life; she’s potty trained, knows simple commands, and is comfortable with her leash. If you’re looking for a pup who’s affectionate, well-mannered, and just the right amount of silly, she’s your girl! The biggest area of opportunity for Lulu is gaining confidence in the city. She’s made amazing progress settling into her foster home and yard, but outdoor walks are still very scary for her. That said, she handles her fears quietly—no barking or reactivity, just some nervous darting and shaking. She’d thrive in a quiet area or the suburbs, where she can keep building trust on walks at her own pace. She’s a truly special pup. Whoever brings her home is in for something wonderful!" Level of dog ownership experience needed:BEGINNER: This means we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale due to its breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup. Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.) Cuddle Bug LevelLulu is not a lap dog, but likes to spend majority of the time laying right near you or touching your leg. She definitely will chill out and do her own thing (chew her toy, lay on the floor). Potty TrainedYes — Few or no accidents Comfy with strangers?Need to go slow —Still coming out of her shell! She's been able to warm up to the few people we've introduced to her at home. Outside of the house she is still very afraid and hides or shrinks from any people walking by. Comfortable with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision)Yes for 12 and up — may be a little energetic or a little skittish, best with older children that can be extra gentle or that are big enough not to get accidentally knocked down Social with Other Dogs?Mostly — Generally good with other dogs but may be picky (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example) Mouthy Behavior?Low –She loves her chew toys, but has a very clear sense of what is appropriate to chew on and sticks to that! Leash Manners?Right now, she is very terrified of walks, which has made her pull and zig zag quite a bit. However, we've had moments where she's comfortable for a block or in our backyard and around the house she behaves really well on a leash, which makes me think she has some leash training and would not need much direction once she's comfortable. Okay in the city? Will do best in a calm area or the burbs — Terrified of walks, barely wants to move and shakes a lot, eager to get back to home (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue) 'm not sure yet. Short answer: She is still very terrified of walks and she can rush to get back. She shows interest in walks when we're in the house will definitely do better in a suburb or really quiet area. We've made some real progress over the last week, but she is still mostly shut down. Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Puerto Rico or Southern California. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though! This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2409146##
